Position Overview
The Human Resources Generalist works with the Director of Human Resources and team to handle employment functions like classification, compensation, benefits, recruitment, employee relations, Title IX investigations, family medical leave, and reasonable accommodation. This role requires being service-oriented, empathetic, and eager to learn.
Under minimal direction, perform HR assignments involving independent judgment. Daily tasks include managing benefits, processing compensation, and handling recruitment while ensuring compliance with laws and promoting equity.
Qualities include understanding, empathy, inclusion, promoting equity, and working against oppression.
Employee Type: Full Time Exempt, Permanent
Initial Salary: $70,000.00-$78,000.00 annually, inclusive of 5% King County Premium Pay (KCPP)
Supervising Position: Director of Human Resources
Essential Duties
Employee Benefits and Leave
- Determine eligibility for health insurance and retirement benefits under applicable policies.
- Handle notifications, enrollments, and ineligibility determinations per COBRA and other rules.
- Manage leave under FMLA, Family Care Act, and related laws.
- Serve as contact for benefits issues with state agencies.
- Resolve benefits problems and manage related reports.
Recruitment and Hiring
- Develop recruiting strategies and support equity programs.
- Conduct job analyses and train screening committees.
- Maintain recruitment information and serve as candidate contact.
- Collect data for reports on recruiting and retention.
Salary Administration and Contracting
- Process salary activities and ensure accuracy.
- Monitor increments and handle salary increases.
- Maintain classification information and produce contracts.
Unemployment Compensation
- Monitor claims and represent the college at hearings.
Workers Compensation
- Manage claims and maintain OSHA records.
Other Duties
- Collaborate with HR Director on process improvements and committees.
- Perform other similar duties as requested.
Education and Experience
Minimum Qualifications
- Associate degree in human resources or related field and one year of HR experience, or equivalent.
- Knowledge of HR practices, laws, and commitment to equity.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in human resources.
- PHR or SHRM certification.
- HR experience in higher education or government.
- Experience with HRIS, ATS, employee relations, and unionized environments.
Physical Work Environment
Semi-sedentary work in a standard office setting, with hybrid options.
