This position ensures the continuity of operations for University Housing by providing IT support to the entire organization. Point of contact for University Housing with all of the departments/units within the Office of Information Technology and across campus. Provides appropriate technology-based solutions and support to University Housing staff from six different units within the organization. Support of Enterprise Service Management System, StarRez, Cbord, Banner, AIS and HRSS. Swiftly resolves technology issues to ensure departmental operations continue to function efficiently and effectively.
Examples of Duties
- 25%: University Housing has over 150 electronic equipment being utilized by our current staff. The electronic equipment consists of computers, laptops, tablets, network printers, standalone printers and digital signages. Serves as the administrator for Housing staff on all of the specialized software and SIUC Office of Information Technology software. As the administrator of these programs it involves handling the creation of accounts, added rights for users, deleting user rights and maintaining a current staff placement in the appropriate departmental units. Serves as the liaison for Housing with all of the departments/units within the Office of Information of Technology. Provides appropriate technology-based solutions and support to University Housing staff from six different units within the organization, which includes the use of the Enterprise Service Management System, StarRez, Cbord, Banner, AIS, HRSS.
- 25%: Ensures computing technology adheres to the current enterprise computing paradigm established by SIUC Office Of Information Technology. Provides the deployment and management of standardized operating systems such as Windows 10 and Mac OS using enterprise management tools. Ensures the security of information resources and data through a variety of physical and software measures including annual inventory and device lifecycle management, patch management, encryption, identity manager and user education. This is carried out through a combination of daily operation and project work.
- 25%: Install, maintain and troubleshoot electronic devices and audio visual equipment. Analyze the IT requirements for equipment and make recommended acquisitions and/or upgrades to Housing leadership. Complete paperwork to purchase equipment for University Housing. Server and computer administration tasks consisting of performing security patching and operating system updates; software version compatibility testing; access and intrusion detection; auditing and monitoring of resources utilization. StarRez and Cbord server specifics including creation, validation and application of database backups; TLS certification issues, application and renewal for the continual use of these programs.
- 15%: Analyze the IT requirements for all computer equipment and electronic devices and make recommendations for upgrades to Housing leadership. Purchase all computer equipment, electronic devices and supplies that Housing needs to keep up to date with SIU standards from the Office of Information Technology. Responsible for the annual inventory of all computer equipment and electronic devices. Maintain the installations and troubleshoots specialized software for University Housing, such as StarRez, Cbord, EMS, Ocularis, KeyTrak.
- 5%: Housing has several areas that their employees don’t use the computer on a daily basis. They need assistance with changing their passwords and account information when the required training happens like ethics, security and their email accounts, HRSS, etc. Hires, supervises and trains both permanent staff members and student workers. Prioritizes tasks with evolving requirements.
- 5%: Perform routing administrative tasks which includes documenting time and attendance, completing mandatory training, hiring committees and attending meetings. Participates in the continuous improvement of University Housing, OIT and SIUC by contributing in meetings, training, process improvement, personal and professional development. Maintains institutional knowledge and ensures business continuity by preparing and maintaining procedures, manuals and other documentation necessary to support all areas of University Housing.
Qualifications
- Any one or any combination totaling 5 years (60 months) from the following categories:
- College coursework which includes Information Technology (IT), IT Management, Programming, IT Systems, or a closely related discipline, as measured by the following conversion table or its proportional equivalent: 30 semester hours equals one (1) year (12 months); Associate's Degree (60 semester hours) equals eighteen months (18 months); 90 semester hours equals two (2) years (24 months); Bachelor's Degree (120 semester hours) equals three (3) years (36 months)
- Work experience in IT-related functions such as hardware/software support, programming, network design, network engineering, IT systems integration, or closely related field, which includes supervisory or lead worker capacity.
- Two years of work experience using StarRez Occupancy Management System and CBord.
- Based on position requirements, additional education, training, and/or work experience in the area of specialization inherent to the position may be required.

Illinois Residency Requirement: Pursuant to the State Universities Civil Service System, out-of-state candidates must establish Illinois residency within 180 calendar days of the start date for this position.

About Civil Service Examination/Testing: The Civil Service examination for this classification is based on your application materials and responses to the supplemental questions. No participation other than submission of application materials is required from applicants that qualify to take the exam. If you meet the minimum required qualifications for this position, your application will move forward for examination/testing in which you will receive a score calculated based on your education and experience, and your name will be placed on the active employment register by exam score.
