Job Summary
Information Technology Specialist II
The UIT Office of Software Licensing (OSL) negotiates, procures, and distributes software licenses to University of Utah students, faculty, and staff. The person in this position will be the initial point of contact for inquiries and service requests about OSL.
- Manages OSL website content and the online software store.
- Must be able to work independently and with a team and possess strong communication, coordination, and organizational skills.
General duties include writing and editing instruction materials, organizing electronic files and directories, information gathering and analysis, and assisting other staff.
Responsibilities
- Answering licensing questions
- Troubleshooting software license and installation issues
- Using a content management system to maintain and publish content to the OSL website
- Managing products and services in the online software store
- Customer communications
- Obtaining software installation files and license keys from vendors
- Become familiar with software licensing terms and conditions.
- Advise staff, students, and faculty regarding licensing policies and procedures to ensure awareness and compliance.
- Advise staff, students, and faculty on software license renewals to ensure continued access.
- Coordinate technical information with campus help desk staff.
- Assist with maintaining department documentation.
- Participate in team decisions for new software offerings.
- Monitor processes and provide recommendations for improvement.
Minimum Qualifications
EQUIVALENCY STATEMENT: 1 year of higher education can be substituted for 1 year of directly related work experience (Example: bachelor's degree = 4 years of directly related work experience). Department may hire employee at one of the following job levels:
Information Technology Specialists, II: Requires a bachelor's (or equivalency) + 4 years or a master's (or equivalency) + 2 years of directly related work experience.
Preferences
Demonstrated ability to work independently, analyze and make decisions related to program content. Strong coordination and organizational skills required to prioritize conflicting deadlines. Demonstrated human relations and effective communication skills are also required. Applicants must demonstrate the potential ability to perform the essential functions of the job as outlined in the job summary and job responsibilities.
- Customer service experience.
- Technical troubleshooting experience.
- Experience with Microsoft 365.
- Strong organizational skills.
- Effective communication skills.
- Ability to work independently, setting agendas and goals, and working well in a team environment.
- Ability to communicate (both orally, and in writing) effectively and appropriately.
- Broad experience with IT service.
- Experience with both MacOS and Windows
