The Instructional Consultant will support faculty in the planning, development, and implementation of engaging interactions in the digital learning environment at Tarleton State University for face-to-face, hybrid, and online courses. The individual will work fluidly across a cannon of theories, industry standards, best practices, and emerging trends at the intersection on technology and pedagogy in a higher education setting. This position will collaborate with faculty on the design, development, and delivery of digitally-enhanced learning experiences that are accessible, engaging, and align with course and program objectives of academic units across Tarleton State University’s Schools and Colleges. This position will particularly focus on the Center for Educational Excellence's commitment to a comprehensive digital learning environment and will assist on projects, development, and implementation of processes where student success is paramount.

This is a full-time, in-office position based at Tarleton State University’s main campus in Stephenville, Texas. Standard work hours are Monday-Friday from 8am to 5 pm, with flexibility required to accommodate evening and weekend responsibilities as needed. Serves as a Campus Security Authority (CSA).

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Instructional Technology (45%)

  • Upon completion of training, implement and manage various academic technologies used at the institution (i.e. Simple Syllabus, SmartEvals, Grammarly). Develop training and professional development to assist faculty with the use of specific academic technology platforms. Assist faculty and make key recommendations based on best practices. Works as a part of a team to execute academic technology testing encompassing functionality, pedagogical best practices, compliance, and industry standards. Participates in testing working groups to develop test planning documentation as required. Collaborates with Innovative Technology Solutions to provide training and support for third-party tools that integrate into the LMS and ensure their compliance with university and industry standards. Serves as a subject matter expert on the University-supported third-party tool portfolio to train faculty to use the learning technologies while also providing troubleshooting support.

Teaching and Support (20%)

  • Contributes to the design and implementation of faculty training to support efficient and optimized use of the digital learning environment. Provides training opportunities across synchronous and asynchronous modalities for individuals and groups of faculty. Remains current on Tarleton State University’s centrally-supported digital learning environment, including security, accessibility, and protection of student data policies. Monitors recurring issues to proactively identify opportunities to increase training efficiency and quality. Develops and facilitates specialized workshops and faculty development opportunities for faculty to mitigate recurring issues with teaching and learning and enhance instructional delivery across various delivery modalities. Contributes to standardized operational processes and procedures, policy guidelines, and documentation. Reinforces the governance model for Tarleton State University’s centrally supported digital learning environment.

Curriculum Development (20%)

  • Develops, coordinates, and implements training curriculum plans for course instructors. Trains faculty course instructors on the use of the digital learning environment to enhance teaching and learning. Collaborates with colleagues within the Center for Educational Excellence to develop observational tools and metrics to ensure faculty, staff, and graduate students are successfully delivering quality online learning experiences for students. Frequently reviews faculty development curriculum plans to ensure content is current and responsive to various data sources and makes revisions when necessary. Ensures all faculty development curriculum meets predetermined standards and that materials are standardized in their design and instructional delivery.

Student Success Champion (15%)

  • Contributes to a collaborative campus-wide culture for championing student success in the digital learning environment, with a lens on practices and interventions for improving the learning experience for students. Serves as a liaison under the purview of promoting an affordable, accessible, and accountable learning experience in the digital learning environment. Attends internal project meetings and may externally represent the Center for Educational Excellence at university-level meetings. Works with key internal and external stakeholders across the higher education community to optimize the digital learning environment at Tarleton State University.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Required Education and Experience

  • Master's degree.
  • Three years of related experience.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Proficiency in engaging adult learners in training, workshops, and professional development focused on learning technologies.
  • Excellent knowledge of Canvas learning management system and associated third-party tools in a contemporary digital learning environment.
  • Ability to track metrics and apply assessment outcomes in a continuous improvement model.
  • Skilled in writing, proofreading, and editing instructional materials.
  • Understanding of learning analytics and an ability to work in a collaborative team environment.
  • Evidence of strong interpersonal skills and excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Understanding of compliance measures for security, accessibility, and the protection of student data in the digital learning environment.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and support faculty’s use of learning technologies in a fast-paced environment within a large university setting.
  • Ability to multi task and work cooperatively with others.
  • Ability to work with faculty in a consultative and training capacity. Strong understanding of best practices in leveraging the digital learning environment to enhance instructional delivery across various teaching modalities.
  • Demonstrated creativity, strategic thinking, and problem-solving skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Instructional Design, Curriculum and Instruction, Adult Learning and Literacy, Higher Education, or other related field.
  • Experience in instructional design, curriculum and instruction, faculty development, workshop facilitation, and engaging adult learners.
  • Demonstrated experience in meeting the needs of faculty and students in a higher education setting.
  • Experience with using contemporary technologies in an integrated digital learning environment.
  • Experience with learning theory, pedagogical practices, and alternative assessment strategies across various disciplines.
  • Experience applying universal design for learning principles and practices in a digital learning environment.

Compensation & Benefits

Salary: Commensurate with experience

Salary Range: The target base annual salary range is $59,370 up to $84,311 and may be negotiable based on funding availability and candidate experience/skillset in relation to the minimum requirements of this position.
