The Instructional Design Specialist will develop and plan tutoring and other academic support activities for STEM students, especially those enrolled in foundational Science and mathematics courses. The activities include developing discipline-based tutoring curriculum, practice problems, and workshops to support the success of students in science and mathematics courses such as general chemistry, biology, mathematics and physics. The Specialist will hire and supervise peer tutors within their purview, plan weekly meetings with the tutors, develop tutor training and professional development materials that are informed by both evidence-based educational practices and discipline-based content and practices. The Specialist will interact closely with faculty and staff from science and mathematics departments to support the tutoring program and maintain alignment with the rest of the Amgen STEM Learning Center (ASLC) staff, student success goals and programming. The Specialist will assist the Associate Director in keeping extensive records on tutoring activities, academic support programming and tutors tutoring experiences, as well as, STEM students experiences with tutoring. The Specialist will help the Associate Director in assessing the impact of tutoring and disseminating this information to both the ASLC Staff & its stakeholders.
The Instructional Design Specialist position is an in-person, 5 days per week position.
Required: Bachelors degree in Mathematics, Chemistry, Biology, or Physics or equivalent education and experience. Two years of relevant experience. Strong communication skills and strong organization skills. Proficiency with Microsoft Office and excellent writing skills. Enthusiasm for science, student success, and ability to interact with people.
Desire: Master's degree in Mathematics, Chemistry, Biology, or Physics tor equivalent education and experience. Experience or background in science or science education strongly desired. Experience in a student support position or an advising program.

The pay range for this job profile is $55,700 - $72,700. The offer for this position will fall within this range based on internal equity, the unit's available budget, and the candidate's qualifications.
