Instructional Designer and LMS Administrator
We are seeking an experienced Instructional Designer who will also serve as our Learning Management System (LMS) Administrator. This dual role is integral to supporting our faculty in creating engaging online and blended learning experiences while maintaining the technical infrastructure that supports our mission. Responsible to the VP of Academic Affairs for supporting faculty learning and curriculum in instructional design.
Core Responsibilities
- Instructional Design & Faculty Development (50%): Collaborate with faculty to develop effective teaching practices through strategic digital learning initiatives. Facilitate workshops on instructional design best practices, emerging technologies, and evidence-based strategies. Provide pedagogical consultation and ongoing coaching to enhance teaching effectiveness and student engagement. Create accessible, interactive learning materials aligned with OSCQR standards. Manage LMS resources ensuring content relevance and alignment with college priorities. Develop and implement instructional technology strategy with Associate Dean for Academic Affairs.
- LMS Administration & Technical Support (25%): Serve as primary administrator for learning management system and educational applications. Configure settings, manage course creation, user accounts, enrollments, and permissions. Implement system updates, troubleshoot issues, and provide timely support to faculty and students. Research and design LMS improvements including new features and customizations. Serve as Field Admin with Canvas for direct troubleshooting. Document policies, procedures, and best practices.
- Assessment Support (5%): Support college assessment processes within LMS, including rubric creation and grading schemas. Partner with Assistant Dean for Assessment on data requests and program outcome updates. Provide faculty training on assessment strategies and tools. Attend faculty committees as assigned.
- Distance Education & Quality Assurance (10%): Develop, review, and maintain online programming. Serve as institutional resource and expert for online compliance requirements. Chair Distance Learning Quality Committee. Develop and monitor assessment tools specifically for distance learning programs. Work with Associate Dean for Graduate Studies on graduate learning infrastructure.
- Collaboration & Support (10%): Collaborate with Campus Technology Services, Registrar's office, and ITS on technology implementation and issue resolution.
Required Qualifications
- Master's degree in Instructional Design, Educational Technology, or related field.
- 2+ years instructional design experience in higher education.
- Demonstrated LMS administration experience.
- Technical proficiency in Canvas (or comparable LMS), MS Office, Camtasia, TurnItIn.
- Strong organizational, project management, and communication skills.
- Ability to deliver presentations and training to diverse audiences.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with SUNY Online Course Quality Rubric (OSCQR).
- Knowledge of accessibility standards and universal design principles.
- Background in faculty development and multimedia development tools.
