Instructional Designer
INSTRUCTIONAL DESIGNER
Position Summary:
This position is responsible for assisting faculty, other CMU employees, and affiliated constituents in the design and development of Instructional-related content and material for online courses (credit and non-credit). This position also works closely with the Office of Curriculum and Instructional Support staff (e.g., curricular, multimedia, and LMS) to facilitate content design and development. This position provides training for faculty on various aspects of online course design, development, and delivery.
Required Qualifications:
- Masters Degree, preferably in Business or Education Technology, Instructional Design/Technology, or a related field.
- Two years of experience in higher education, working in instructional design, faculty development, or training.
- Experience teaching college-level courses and/or training college faculty and/or staff.
- Knowledge and understanding of the instructional design process and online teaching and learning.
- Working knowledge of and experience using a learning management system and its tools.
- Broad, functional knowledge of and proficiency in using common software applications and instructional technology tools.
- Proven knowledge of accessibility in online courses.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to handle multiple projects and priorities.
- Demonstrated ability to interact with all levels of faculty and staff including the ability to work successfully in a team environment.
- Ability to perform the essential functions of the position, with or without reasonable accommodation.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Doctorate in a related field.
- Experience in a Blackboard Ultra environment.
- Experience with Quality Matters or similar quality control program for online courses.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Works with faculty to design, develop, and revise instructionally sound online courses.
- Consults with faculty about using technology, multimedia, and learning systems to improve online teaching and learning.
- Works collaboratively and closely with other Curriculum and Instructional Support units and faculty to develop online and hybrid courses.
- Implements measures for ensuring quality in online and hybrid courses.
- Facilitates the development and delivery of training and development opportunities to enhance the skills and competencies of faculty who develop and teach online and hybrid courses.
- Researches, evaluates, and assesses the latest technology, learning media, and learning systems best practices in online design, development, and delivery.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
