Instructional Designer
Position Purpose
To provide instructional design services, collaborate with e-Learning staff, university faculty, and subject matter experts to design and develop accessible, quality online learning content and courses.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
- A minimum of two (2) years experience in instructional design and instructional technology within a higher education environment.
- Expertise in ADA Title II compliance and accessibility standards for online learning.
- Expertise in identifying and remediating course materials—such as course pages, files, and videos to be accessible based on WCAG guidelines.
- Experience with nationally recognized standards of quality course design, such as Quality Matters or OSCQR-SUNY, is required.
- Demonstrated strong project management skills, including the ability to collect, analyze, and report data.
- Ability to work both collaboratively and independently, maintaining clear priorities and meeting deadlines.
- Ability to troubleshoot software and technical issues with minimal guidance.
- Effective visual, oral, and written communication skills are essential.
- Ability to write clear instructional content and scripts for digital accessibility is expected.
- Applicants should be skilled in designing, developing, and evaluating online courses and training.
- Consultation and collaboration experience with diverse faculty and staff, both virtually and in-person.
- Experience facilitating professional development in online and face-to-face environments using varied delivery methods is required.
Desired Qualifications
- Master's degree in Instructional Design, Instructional Technology, or equivalent experience.
- Experience integrating Universal Design for Learning (UDL) principles within a learning management system such as Moodle.
- Ability to creatively and diplomatically resolve accessibility, technological, and pedagogical issues is highly valued.
- Applicants should demonstrate skill in creating, analyzing, and improving internal processes.
- Ability to manage student employees is preferred.
- Proficiency with multimedia development, editing, and production using tools such as Camtasia Studio, H5P, YuJa, Panopto, and web-conferencing platforms. Knowledge of Sections 504 and 508 accessibility regulations.
- Experience using Artificial Intelligence tools to solve problems or expedite instructional design tasks is desired.
- Ability to research, test, and analyze new technologies for potential adoption.
- Familiarity with educational copyright law and Open Educational Resources (OER) is beneficial.
- Knowledge of adaptive technologies such as NVDA, JAWS, and Dragon Naturally Speaking.
