Instructor/Assistant Professor of Medical Psychology (in Psychiatry) at CUMC

The Department of Psychiatry is seeking a NY state licensed clinical psychologist to join the Lieber Recovery Clinic, a service within the CUIMC Psychiatry Faculty Practice Organization (FPO) in Manhattan. This is a full-time, clinical position in an outpatient service dedicated to helping people with serious mental illnesses return to a higher level of independent functioning. The clinic primarily serves people diagnosed with psychotic disorders and/or ASD or other neurodiverse conditions. Primary responsibilities involve conducting group therapy utilizing empirically supported treatments, providing care coordination and doing intakes. Ideal applicants will have experience facilitating skills based therapeutic groups including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for psychosis, for depression and for anxiety, ACT, and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy.

The CUIMC Psychiatry FPO sees a mix of private pay and managed care patients and has a particular focus on serving the CUIMC community, among others. The Psychiatry department prioritizes evidence-based interventions and has an array of specialized programs to best serve our patients. The position currently allows for 20% hybrid work; in-person work will take place at the Columbus Circle site. Columbia faculty serve as part of multi-disciplinary teams with ample opportunities to learn from and consult with colleagues.

Responsibilities:

  1. Candidate(s) will conduct intake evaluations of patients with psychiatric disorders and psychological distress.
  2. Candidate(s) will provide group therapy, care coordination, and individual therapy.
  3. Candidate(s) will work closely with a clinical team, including other psychologists, as well as social workers, psychiatrists, and psychiatric nurse-practitioners.
  4. Candidate(s) will have opportunities to attend case conferences, peer supervision, and Grand Rounds at CUIMC. Opportunities may exist for clinical supervision and teaching.

This role includes opportunities for additional compensation aligned with the department's comprehensive compensation plan.

Qualifications:

  • PsyD or PhD in Clinical Psychology.
  • New York State license required.
  • Candidates will be required to obtain a New Jersey license.
  • Applicants must have demonstrated interest, experience, and training in providing evidence-based treatments for psychosis, and/or neurodiverse populations, and for psychosis, depression, and anxiety. Experience, familiarity, and comfort working with high-risk patients is needed.
  • Applicants should have strong interpersonal skills, organizational skills, and the ability to work well across disciplines and function effectively as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
