Position Description
The ADW African Diaspora and the World Program in the Division of the Humanities at Spelman College invites applicants for a non-tenure PT Instructor position for the two-semester first year African Diaspora and the World Sequence ADW 111 and ADW 112, beginning Fall, 2025. The sequence is a two-semester interdisciplinary and gender-informed introduction to the experiences of peoples of the worldwide African Diaspora historically. Selected instructors will be assigned, initially, one course section per semester in the first year, with the possibility of additional sections to a maximum of 3 per semester based on positive teaching evaluation and engagement. Each course section meets in-person for two 75-minute sessions per week either on Monday/Wednesday or Tuesday/Thursday.
Instructors are required to attend one instructors' calibration discussion meeting every two-weeks, and a week-long curriculum and pedagogical review and training workshop at the end of each academic year. We are seeking candidates with a Master's degree or higher in any academic discipline with some scholarly experience on the African Diaspora, and at least two years of experience in teaching at the undergraduate level. The successful candidates should be willing to work closely with first year students at a Liberal Arts college with a commitment to teaching and engagement of students.
This position is contingent upon the availability of sufficient funding.
