Instructor of Clinical Family & Community Medicine SMS-3761

This position is responsible for providing direct patient care to patients of the Center. This position is also responsible for coordinating an expanded curriculum in obstetrics, including the advanced OB track for residents.

Administration 0%

  • Assist in the development of the expanded obstetric curriculum goals and objectives.
  • Develop and deliver core curriculum conferences in prenatal, delivery and antenatal care for the residency program. Including participation as part of the OB Interdisciplinary Team Modeling for Residents.
  • Participate in rounds, home visits and other activities, as requested.
  • Teach family medicine residents basic prenatal exams and how to monitor progress throughout pregnancy.
  • Develop formats for staffing and chart reviews on obstetrical patients.
  • Teach students and residents how to manage normal and low risk pregnancies.
  • Maintain certification as an Advanced Life Support in Obstetrics Provider and Instructor.

Research 5%

  • Perform periodic literature reviews on obstetrical topics to keep abreast of latest
  • Participate in the development and/or delivery of presentations in areas of own interest.
  • Participate in collaborative departmental research or grants, as opportunities arise.

Service 75%

  • Assist in the development of outreach prenatal clinics in underserved populations in Sangamon and the surrounding counties.
  • Aid in coordination of all patient care activities relating to obstetrical patients of the Center for Family Medicine and Central Counties Community Health Center.
  • Assess family medicine center obstetrical patients for the purpose of: identifying at risk factors; facilitating appropriate referrals to community-based social service agencies; and for developing the patient's plan of care.
  • Under physician supervision, provide direct patient care in the inpatient and outpatient settings as appropriate.
  • Participate in obstetrical call in collaboration with faculty physicians.
  • Attend faculty meetings and core conferences on a regular basis.
  • Take part in Center Peer Review and Quality Improvement Activities.
  • Provide emergency services to patients as needed including those who are identified as having no primary care physician.
  • Serve on the Center-wide Committees, as assigned.
  • Serve on school and department committees, as assigned.
  • Participate in community outreach projects.
  • Maintain competence in clinical practice using continuing education opportunities, professional conferences, and maintains licensure/certification.

Minimum Qualifications

  1. Sensitive to the needs of underrepresented minority populations.
  2. Certification as a Nurse Midwife at time of hire
  3. Licensed or eligible to be license as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse at time of hire

Desired Qualifications

  1. Preference will be given to applicants who have previously worked in a federally qualified health center or rural health clinic and have experience in teaching.
