Instructor or Clinical Assistant Professor - School Psychology - 001592
Instructor or Clinical Assistant Professor - School Psychology - 001592
Western Carolina University
Department: Psychology
Position Summary:
The primary location of this position is the main Cullowhee, NC campus.
The Psychology Department at Western Carolina University (WCU) invites applications for a 9-month fixed-term Clinical Assistant Professor or Instructor, with a projected start date of August 2025.
The fixed-term faculty member selected for this position will have responsibilities related to teaching and supervising school psychology graduate students at WCU. To this end, the successful candidate will have work experience as a school psychologist with a particular focus on assessment and interventions, primarily in the school setting. Fixed-term faculty members in the department typically teach a 4/4 load, where supervision of internal and external practicum counts toward the load each term. Interest in teaching assessment or other courses in the SSP program is also a plus. Other duties as assigned, and based on the candidate's experience and interest, may take the place of a more traditional course (i.e., count toward the load). As noted, the faculty member would be involved actively with graduate students, particularly those in our NASP accredited school psychology program, through our department's state-of-the art, public-facing McKee Assessment and Psychological Services Clinic. The McKee Clinic is dedicated to providing advanced assessment training for our graduate students (Master's, SSP, and PsyD) through affordable comprehensive services to individuals, families, and schools in Western North Carolina. Familiarity with similar settings is helpful. Depending on department needs, teaching of developmental-, and/or child-oriented undergraduate courses (Undergraduate Internship, careers and issues, child psychopathology, child or adolescent development, behavioral interventions, etc.), could also be part of the fixed term faculty member's load. As such, experience with teaching is a plus.
Moreover, the eligible candidate needs to have earned a doctorate in school psychology, or a closely related field, from an accredited institution. Experience and certification as a school psychologist is required. As noted, experience with comprehensive assessment, supervision of assessment and academic interventions, and an interest in teaching courses in the school psychology program is particularly relevant.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required for this position:
Minimum Qualifications:
- Earned doctorate in school psychology or closely related field from an accredited institution
- Experience and certification as a school psychologist
- Work experience as a school psychologist with focus on assessment and interventions in school settings
Preferred Qualifications:
- Interest in teaching assessment or other courses in the SSP program
- Experience with teaching
- Familiarity with clinic settings like McKee Clinic
