Position Summary:
ENMU-Roswell is seeking a Physical Science Instructor with the ability and desire to teach any combination of freshman and sophomore-level physics and chemistry courses, including Chemistry in Our Community, Chemistry for STEM Majors I and II, Algebra Based Physics I and II and/or other related courses (fall and spring semesters, day, evening, and/or online) based on institutional need. All courses include laboratory components. This is a full-time (10-month), tenure-track faculty position requiring the instructor to fulfill all teaching, advising, committee responsibilities, and contractual obligations. This position involves instructing the equivalent of 15 credit hours per semester on the ENMU-Roswell Campus. This position reports directly to the Dean of Arts & Science Education.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Prepare, teach, grade, and assess student learning in assigned courses.
- Foster a supportive learning environment for a diverse student population, including disabled, first-generation, Hispanic/Latinx, and/or Pell-eligible students.
- Use Canvas for communication, feedback, curriculum development, course design, and student outcome assessment.
- Demonstrate proficiency in learning management systems and integrate both face-to-face and technology-based instructional methods.
- Regularly update grades, provide electronic course materials, and submit grades on time.
- Promote student success and retention through active learning strategies, office hours, student advising, committee work, community service, and professional development.
- Contribute to the growth of Physical Science and related STEM programs by participating in curriculum development, attending Open House and Admissions events, assisting with grant procurement, and other relevant activities.
- Utilize technology to manage student records and college processes efficiently.
- Participate in the assessment of learning outcomes and use results to inform course planning.
- Assist students with registration, advising, and graduation processes.
- Structure courses to align with program and course outcomes.
- Prepare and utilize instructional materials such as syllabi, supplementary resources, and instructional media.
- Attend in-service sessions, meetings, graduations, and convocations as required.
- Maintain clear and timely communication with the supervisor and potential stakeholders.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements:
Minimum Job Requirements:
- Master's degree in an appropriate discipline or closely related field, with at least 12 credit hours of upper-division coursework in the subject area from an accredited institution; or a Bachelor’s degree combined with relevant training, experience, and certifications equivalent to a Master’s degree in the subject being taught.
Preferred:
- Ph.D. in a related field.
- Bilingual in Spanish and English.
- Experience working at a Hispanic-Serving Institution (HSI).
- Two years of teaching experience at the secondary or post-secondary level, including experience at a public two-year, community college.
- Experience managing classroom labs, budgets, and supply orders.
- Experience with program evaluation and assessment.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Candidates must possess a strong commitment to teaching, working with a diverse student population, and supporting the mission of community and technical colleges.
- Proficiency in using word processing software, basic internet applications, databases, and learning management systems.
- Ability to teach face-to-face, virtual, and hybrid formats.
Working Conditions:
- The noise level in the work environment is typically moderate.
- Work is generally performed during regular business hours; however, some evening and weekend assignments may be required to accommodate student schedules and program needs.
