Instructor Studio Art (Ceramics)
The faculty of the School of Visual Art and Design at the University of South Carolina, Columbia campus, invites applications for a full time, professional-track position at the rank of Instructor in Studio Art (Ceramics) to begin August 16, 2026. The position is a 9-month appointment with a 4/4 teaching load. This is an annual appointment that may be renewed contingent upon Dean’s approval, satisfactory performance, departmental needs, and the availability of funding.
The successful candidate will teach 4 ceramics courses in Fall semesters and 4 ceramics courses in Spring semesters and be responsible for clay and glaze mixing as well as all kiln firings for instructional use, and should be able to lift up to 50 lbs. Additional responsibilities include keeping track of equipment use and maintenance schedules and functionality, keeping the space organized and safe, and other duties as required. Instructors are Professional Track Faculty and, as such, have some service responsibility to the department (SVAD), attend faculty meetings, have opportunities for leadership and advancement/promotion, and may participate in faculty governance.
The position requires an MFA (Master of Fine Arts) or more advanced degree in Studio Art with a demonstrated expertise in Ceramics as professional potter and educator by the start date of the appointment.
Preferred Qualifications Responsible for clay and glaze mixing as well as all kiln firings for instructional use, and should be able to lift up to 50 lbs.
