Regarding Academic Credentials at PCC
These positions are included in the bargaining agreement between Portland Community College and the Portland Community College Faculty Federation Employees.
Instructors shall have earned required academic credentials at a regionally accredited US institution or a foreign institution having the equivalent of regional accreditation.
Instructors with credentials from other countries will have their transcripts evaluated by agencies that have good standing with the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services to establish fulfillment of this standard. Instructor Qualifications:
Education
AAS or higher degree in Welding Technology or related field is preferred; must have a high school diploma or equivalent.
Experience
Five years recent welding field experience is required. Five years recent teaching experience at the college level or industry training experience or a combination of teaching at the college level and industry trainer experience may be substituted, year for year, for recent welding field experience.
General Qualifications
Welding certifications in all areas of instruction are required within the first year of hire as follows:
- GMAW ER70S-6, 2G limited plate
- FCAW E71T-1, 3G and 4G unlimited plate
- FCAW E71T-8, 3G and 4G unlimited plate
- GTAW/SMAW ER70S-6/E7018 2" sch 80 pipe (uphill progression) 6G position
- SMAW E6010, 6" sch 40 pipe (downhill progression), 6G position
- SMAW E6010/E7018 6" sch 80 pipe (uphill progression), 6G position
- SMAW E7018 3G and 4G unlimited plate
Success Criteria
- Effectively adapts instruction in real time based on student questions, skill levels, and observed learning needs.
- Demonstrated ability to create and nurture a sense of well-being and belonging in a technical instructional environment with adult learners.
- Maintains clear safety supervision such as modeling proper PPE use, tool handling, workspace organization, and professional boundaries while managing multiple tasks and student groups.
- Experience working with a team to develop and implement projects and fulfill department needs.
- Experience collaborating with partners and industry to fulfill department needs.
Initial Salary Placement will be between Step 1 ($73,911) and Step 3 ($78,408) based on related experience, per PCC's collective bargaining agreement. Placement at a higher step may be possible based upon additional experience and internal equity. The highest step of the range is step 17, ($118,558) Please review the salary schedule here.
