Instructors (Part-Time), International & English Language Programs - Academic Skills for Digital Skills youth program

UW Continuum College (UWC2) has up to four outstanding opportunities for part-time instructors in the customized Digital Skills course offered by International Specialized Programs between October 13 and November 14, 2025. This intensive in-person course offered at UW Seattle is a customized large lecture course created for 100-110 Thai high school students selected by Thailand's Digital Economy Promotion Agency (depa). The training is part of a nationwide initiative to transform Thailand into a global tech and supply chain hub by boosting digital skills, creating job opportunities, and streamlining business ecosystems through tax incentives, digital training, and investor-friendly reforms.
Instructors will...
- Deliver daily Academic Skills lessons Tuesday and Thursday (with one Monday class session on the first day of the program), focused on helping participants reflect upon and articulate their learning while practicing key skills that will help them both during and after their learning experience.
- Coordinate closely with program staff to align instruction with the broader daily activities and ensure students are supported linguistically throughout the experience.
- The Academic Skills course curriculum will be shared with each instructor through a Canvas course page, consisting of five modules of two lessons each (see dates below).
- Complete instructor onboarding, relevant learning technology training, and other training as required
- Collaborate with IELP staff to ensure course materials and instruction meet University accessibility requirements and standards
- Observe FERPA, HIPAA, and other privacy laws and policies.
We are looking for up to four instructors to teach the following topics at the dates and times indicated:
- Communication Fundamentals October 13th & October 14th from 1:30 to 3:20pm
- Time Management October 16th & October 21st from 1:30 to 3:20pm
- Critical Thinking October 23rd & October 28th from 1:30 to 3:20pm
- Writing (Short response) October 30th & November 4th from 1:30 to 3:20pm
- Presentation Skills November 6th & November 13th from 1:30 to 3:20pm
In addition to the class sessions outlined above, the Academic Skills instructors will take students from their section on a one-hour campus tour on the morning of Monday, October 13, starting at approximately 10:45 a.m. Instructors are invited to attend a one-hour closing ceremony in the UW Tower on the afternoon of Friday, November 14.
Compensation will be paid as 30% FTE during the Oct. 1 - Nov. 15 pay periods. FTE determined by AFT Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) Article 16 (16.5.1). Instructor's individual pay rate determined by AFT CBA Article 21.
UWC2 Extension Lecturers / Instructors are Academic Staff, not faculty. These are part-time, temporary positions represented by the AFT-UWELF Local 6486 Contract (https://hr.uw.edu/labor/academic-and-student-unions/aft/contract)

Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Master's degree in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages, or equivalent.
- Prior experience with in-person teaching / training.
- Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
- Ability, and desire, to successfully work with individuals from diverse cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds.
- Willingness to teach with minimal supervision while maintaining high standards of professionalism, punctuality, and content relevance.
- Must successfully pass a criminal background check as a condition of employment.
- Legal authorization to work and receive compensation in the United States. This position is not eligible for visa sponsorship.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Prior experience teaching / training learners under the age of 18.
- Current, or previous, University of Washington instructor.
- Prior teaching or mentoring experience with international learners.
