Job Summary

The Center for High Performance Computing (CHPC) is seeking motivated students to join our team as paid intern. Interns play an important role in supporting CHPC's mission to advance research and innovation at the University of Utah through reliable financial operations, administrative support, and exposure to high‑performance computing environments.

This position offers hands‑on experience in a professional setting through meaningful project work, routine finance and accounting activities, and opportunities to observe CHPC's technical operations. Interns will develop practical skills in financial processes, documentation management, basic analysis, and operational workflows. The role also provides structured learning objectives and supervised access to CHPC systems and teams, helping students build both technical and professional capabilities.

Students will gain real‑world experience, contribute to impactful work, and have the opportunity to grow year over year in a dynamic, research‑focused environment.

Responsibilities

Duties and Responsibilities

General Finance & Accounting Support

  • Assist with routine financial or administrative tasks.
  • Help maintain organized records and documentation.
  • Support the team with simple analysis, reporting activities, or operational workflows as assigned.

Project Work

  • Complete a dedicated project that may relate to finance, operations, or a technical workflow.
  • Work toward a defined deadline and present results, recommendations, or deliverables at the end of the project period.

Exposure to Technical Operations

  • Gain broad exposure to CHPC's technical environment, including HPC systems, research workflows, software development, and AI‑related initiatives.
  • Collaborate with or observe other managers and teams as opportunities arise.

Minimum Qualifications

Qualifications

Required

  • Currently pursuing a degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, Information Systems, or a related field.
  • Strong attention to detail and organization.
  • Basic proficiency with Excel or similar tools.
  • Good communication skills and willingness to learn.

Preferences

Preferred

  • Interest in technology, research computing, or data‑driven environments.
  • Coursework or experience related to finance or accounting principles.
