International Student Advisor
Overview
Deliver immigration services for a specific population within the Office of Global Services (i.e., post-admissions immigration services for newly-admitted US-bound foreign national NYU students; US and foreign national students and scholars studying or working abroad; and/or US-bound foreign scholars and their dependents) to permit lawful entry into the country in which the individual will be studying or working. Advise on opportunities, rights and responsibilities under the law and refer to other University departments, attorneys, or governmental agencies as necessary. Counsel international students/scholars/employees on all personal, health, social, cultural, financial, and immigration matters related to their stay within the appropriate portal campus within the NYU 'Global Network University'. Act as designated school official (DSO) and Alternate Responsible Officer (ARO) in issuing required US government documents for international students to obtain student or exchange visitor status, extend stay, apply for employment authorization, travel abroad. Collaborate with staff, schools, departments and outside organizations (including vendors) to plan and coordinate events, identifying themes or topics, planning agendas, scheduling presenters.
Required Education
Bachelor's in Liberal Arts, Management, Communications, Education
Preferred Education
Master's in cross-cultural communication, counseling, area or cultural studies, foreign language, TESOL.
Required Experience
Minimum 2 years relevant immigration regulations advisement and compliance experience or equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience teaching/training/presenting.
Preferred Experience
3 years administering immigration and exchange visitor benefits (DSO/ARO) in a higher education setting.
Required Skills, Knowledge and Abilities
Knowledge of immigration, SEVIS, and exchange visitor requirements. Ability to communicate effectively with people from different cultural backgrounds; excellent organizational, interpersonal and written and oral communication skills. Computer literacy.
Preferred Skills, Knowledge and Abilities
Fluency in at least one foreign language; experience living abroad. Familiarity with Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Web-based applications. Completion of NAFSA F-1 and J-1 Professional Development Programs.
Qualifications
In compliance with NYC's Pay Transparency Act, the annual base salary range for this position is USD $70,000.00 to USD $79,895.95. New York University considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, as well as, market and organizational considerations when extending an offer. This pay range represents base pay only and excludes any additional items such as incentives, bonuses, clinical compensation, or other items.
