This position leads and oversees implementation, maintenance, and integration of the college’s IT computer systems, including administrative applications, databases, authentication systems, servers, network and the planning and coordination of upgrades and software support for these systems. This person collaborates closely with the Director of IT and CIO|AVP of Technology in managing the college’s information systems.
Examples of Duties
- Responsible for monitoring, maintenance, and documentation of information systems and college servers along with safeguarding system stability and operations. Position has oversight of major network or computing outages.
- Responsible for system backups and revisions to disaster recovery processes and procedures.
- Recommends and implements industry best practices for the use and security of the college’s applications, databases, and cloud integrations.
- Leads and collaborates on development, programming, and maintenance of systems integrations, SSO connections; is responsible for the creation and management of Extract, Transform, and Load (ETL) data exchanges, as required by the college.
- Supervises the IT Department Systems Administrator staff. Assists in the recommendations for hiring and terminations and evaluates sub-departmental employees. Conducts staff performance evaluations, following Mid’s performance evaluation procedures. Ensures that sub-departmental employees can provide current technical and software support.
- Leads the management of user account permission access rights and storage allocations in accordance with best practices regarding privacy, security, and regulatory compliance.
- Oversight of network and physical security (Firewall, SSL Certs, Anti-virus, security camera, and door access systems.)
- Collaborates with the technology team on the management and documentation of servers (on-prem & cloud hosted), network (switches, wireless), firewall, certificates, and DNS management.
- Evaluates the use of college systems for efficiency gains and provides recommendations for improvements to the Information Technology (IT) leadership team.
- Provides updates to the IT team on system issues, reviewing and cataloging related system logs.
- Responsible for troubleshooting and conducting root cause analysis of computer system service interruptions; designs and deploys preventive measures, maintains comprehensive documentation, escalates reports to the IT leadership team, and serves as the primary owner for handling and resolving associated support calls.
- Ensures that information systems are being used in support of the college’s goals and objectives and that end users are adhering to proper-use standards.
- Leads maintenance planning, patches, processes, and upgrades of the college’s technology systems.
- Assists in the legal procurement, maintenance and use of all on-premises software and SaaS licenses/services supported by the college.
- Maintains and increases competencies in information systems and related areas through technology article research, books, online media, course work, attendance at conferences, seminars, and workshops.
- Establishes and maintains effective and professional communication with students, co-workers, staff, and faculty.
- Maintains all aspects of integrity and confidentiality as it pertains to information that is available or stored on the college’s networks, servers, and cloud-based resources.
- Participates in tactical and strategic planning with the IT team and assists in the development and implementation of technology departmental objectives, policies, procedures, and standards; recommends changes to technology departmental procedures, as necessary, to improve efficiency.
- Participates in departmental and/or college-wide meetings as required/requested.
- Supports and serves as a role model for the college’s mission, vision, values, and customer service initiatives. Adheres to the organization’s policies, procedures, and compliance guidelines.
- Per the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act (Clery Act), a federal consumer protection law, this position entails functions that meet the definition of a Campus Security Authority (CSA). CSAs have a duty to report any crime to the College’s Clery Compliance Officer. This information may be disclosed to them directly, through third-party, or witnessed. A CSA is required to complete annual training which is provided by the College. This training encompasses the role, responsibilities, and reporting obligations of a CSA.

Typical Qualifications
Education, Certification, Licensure:
- Master’s degree in a technology related field or a combination of a bachelor’s degree in a technology related field plus additional IT related experience and certifications that would similarly demonstrate capabilities in the field of information technology are required. An IT technical degree and at least eight (8) years of high-level experience in the information technology field with significant successful experience leading an engineering team will also be considered.
Experience:
- Six (6) years of experience in a tech-related field required.
- Experience to include:
- Script programming (PowerShell, JavaScript, Python, SQL, PHP, Bash, etc.).
- Managing and supporting computer networks.
- Maintaining virtual machine servers.
- Experience with Microsoft Active Directory and Windows Servers required.
- Experience with Linux and Bash shell scripting for task automation, log analysis, and process monitoring preferred.
Supplemental Information
- Knowledge of computer networking, software/SaaS licensing/services, servers (on premises & cloud), and hardware/software installation and maintenance.
- Knowledge of scripting languages: PowerShell and web programming language JavaScript.
- Knowledge and ability to learn, create and manage new systems integrations using APIs, and SQL scripting for database management, and interconnection of different systems.
- Ability to analyze, evaluate, and troubleshoot business processes to create information systems solutions.
- Ability to communicate with all stakeholders.
- Ability to effectively adapt to shifts in priorities in project planning between short and long-term goals.
- Ability to apply general College policies or procedures in daily decision making.
- Strong organizational and technical documentation skills.
