IT, Systems Engineer 2
Salary Range
$75,000.00 - $112,500.00
Overview
The Systems Engineer 2 will participate in the implementation, automation, and support of physical and virtual infrastructure systems and solutions for Yale University Library. The Systems Engineer 2 will have responsibility for critical services and storage in a 24/7/365 on‐call production environment. The successful candidate for the Systems Engineer 2 will have demonstrated experience with the following technologies:
- UNIX/Linux operating systems and utilities, tools and applications used to deploy, configure, document, secure, and maintain systems and applications.
- At least two of the following: automated build and deployment, automated configuration management, enterprise monitoring systems, containers, and/or Java application servers.
- Amazon Web Services(AWS) in a production environment.
- Scripting languages, such as Python, Perl, Bash
This position works closely and collaboratively with a wide range of staff in Library IT, stakeholders across the Library, Yale Information Technology Services, as well as with external partners and vendors. The Systems Engineer 2 is a member of the Yale University Library IT department, reporting to the Associate Director of DevOps and Infrastructure.
Required Skills and Abilities
- General understanding of computer architecture, operating systems, and data structures
- General understanding of software engineering best practices
- Developed analytical, critical thinking, research, and problem-solving skills
- Developed interpersonal, written, communication, presentation, and organizational skills
- Familiarity with systems analysis methods and techniques
Preferred Skills and Abilities
- Experience with ITIL or similar IT process management frameworks.
- Experience and understanding of development tools - (e.g. git, Jenkins, etc…)
- Experience working with enterprise monitoring solutions (e.g. AWS Cloudwatch, Dynatrace, NewRelic, etc..)
- Experience with application and infrastructure automation - (e.g. Terraform, Ansible(Tower, AAP), etc…)
Principal Responsibilities
- Assist with the build, configuration, and documentation of IT infrastructure.
- Maintain and support IT infrastructure, ensuring adherence to standards and service level objectives.
- Monitor and troubleshoot IT infrastructure. Analyze and report on performance metrics.
- Implement and support robust and secure IT solutions.
- Serve as a technical liaison; support & collaborate with internal and external stakeholders.
- Contribute to development & implementation of best practices.
Required Education and Experience
Bachelor's Degree and two years of experience or equivalent education and experience.
