Position Summary
The Lab Coordinator for the School of Nursing's undergraduate program is responsible for managing and overseeing the day-to-day operations of the nursing skills lab. The role ensures that all laboratory spaces are equipped, organized, and maintained to support the hands-on learning experiences of nursing students. The Lab Coordinator will collaborate closely with faculty to facilitate skills development, ensure a safe learning environment, and assist in the preparation for practical examinations and clinical simulations. Lab coordinator is a full time 12-month position who oversees the operations of both Newtown and Northeast campus labs.
Key Responsibilities and Essential Functions
Lab Management and Operations:
- Oversee the setup, maintenance, and breakdown of nursing skills labs.
- Ensure labs are properly stocked with necessary supplies and equipment, making requisitions for replacements as needed.
- Troubleshoot and maintain equipment to ensure proper functionality and safety.
- Coordinate the use of lab spaces with faculty and students, ensuring that scheduling is efficient and effective.
Student Support and Training:
- Provide hands-on assistance and guidance to nursing students in skills development and practice sessions.
- Assist students during lab exercises, offering feedback and support in the use of lab equipment and techniques.
- Help facilitate student learning through demonstrations, skills check-offs, and other educational activities.
Collaboration with Faculty:
- Work closely with nursing faculty to prepare and execute lab sessions that align with course curricula.
- Assist faculty in the design and implementation of clinical simulations and practice scenarios.
- Provide input and recommendations to faculty on lab-related activities and educational resources.
- Collaborates with Course Coordinators, NEP/NWT Simulation/lab Coordinator, and faculty to ensure preparation of lab supplies and equipment based on faculty requests and course schedule.
- Collaborates with Distance program coordinator in planning and managing Residency. Collaborates with course coordinators in med math support and run med math boot camps for the Fast Track/PTEW/Distance students.
Safety and Compliance:
- Ensure that lab spaces are in compliance with safety standards and protocols, including infection control, equipment handling, and emergency procedures.
- Maintain accurate records of safety checks, maintenance, and inventory management.
- Educate students on lab safety practices and policies.
Inventory and Equipment Management:
- Maintain accurate records of lab inventory, including supplies, equipment, and consumables.
- Oversee the ordering and receiving of materials, supplies, and equipment for the lab.
- Track equipment usage, maintenance schedules, and repairs.
Administrative Support:
- Assist with lab budget management and resource allocation.
- Prepare and submit reports on lab activities, inventory, and maintenance status.
- Support faculty and students in the scheduling and logistical arrangements for open labs, practical exams and clinical simulations.
Qualifications:
Education:
- Master's degree in nursing or a related field
- PA-RN License required
Experience:
- Prior experience working in a nursing lab or healthcare setting is strongly preferred.
- Experience with simulation technology, lab equipment, and clinical skills preferred.
- Experience in an academic or healthcare training environment is a plus.
Skills and Abilities:
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Knowledge of nursing practices, procedures, and equipment.
- Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with faculty, staff, and students.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite and basic laboratory management software.
Other Requirements:
- Ability to lift and carry materials and supplies, up to 25 pounds.
- Ability to stand for extended periods and move throughout the lab environment.
- Willingness to work flexible hours, including evenings or weekends, as necessary.
