Job Description Summary
The Environmental Water Chemistry Lab Manager supports teaching, research, and laboratory operations in the Environmental Engineering Water Chemistry Laboratory in the Department of Civil, Environmental & Architectural Engineering. The successful candidate will play a hands-on role in supporting a wide range of experimental research and instructional activities, while also helping maintain a safe, organized, and high-functioning laboratory environment.
Essential Duties:
- Support the operation of the water chemistry laboratory by maintaining instrumentation, preparing materials and reagents, overseeing laboratory organization, and assisting with experimental design, data collection, and analysis for research and teaching activities.
- Work closely with faculty, graduate students, and undergraduate students to facilitate laboratory-based courses, research projects, and project-based learning experiences.
- Train students in laboratory procedures and safety practices.
- Ensure compliance with university and regulatory safety protocols.
- Manage laboratory supplies and inventory.
- Coordinate equipment maintenance and calibration.
- Assist with documentation for research and lab operations.
- Depending on qualifications and interests, the candidate may also contribute intellectually to ongoing research efforts and help shape new experimental directions within the department.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in environmental engineering, civil engineering, chemistry, chemical engineering, or a closely related field
- 3-5 years' experience
- Strong laboratory experience in water chemistry, environmental analysis, or analytical chemistry
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment
- Excellent organizational skills
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Familiarity with standard water quality measurements and laboratory instruments is expected.
Preferred qualifications:
- Prior experience in an academic or research laboratory
- Experience with analytical instrumentation such as FTRI, mass spectrophotometers, pH/DO/conductivity meters, ion chromatography, TOC analyzers, ICP-MS, GC, or related water quality instrumentation
- Experience training or mentoring students
- Interest in supporting innovative research and teaching in environmental engineering

$71,800 - $80,000 per year. Salary is based on related experience, expertise, and internal equity.
