Lab Research Technician
This position will work on a project focused on defining the molecular structure and function of muscle regulatory proteins, myosin-binding protein C and myosin-binding protein H, which are important to normal muscle development and when mutated lead to muscle pathologies. The model organism used for these studies is the zebrafish.
Generate and maintain genetic zebrafish lines, including embryo injection, genomic DNA extraction, and PCR genotyping. Perform daily maintenance of colony including feeding, and recordkeeping. Perform bacterial expression and purification of myosin-binding proteins C/H which involves column purification, gel electrophoresis. Perform state-of-the-art live embryo fluorescence microscopy and fluorescence microscopy of contractile protein motility assays with required image processing/analyzing data. Provide assistance with the lab duties, such as making stock solutions, updating protocols, maintaining the lab, ordering equipment and supplies.
Minimum Qualifications (or equivalent combination of education and experience): Bachelor's degree in Biological Sciences and classroom lab experience to three years of laboratory or experience required. Experience with molecular biology (e.g., PCR, cloning, CRISPR/Cas9 gene editing, Western Blots), zebrafish embryo injection, and total internal reflectance fluorescence microscopy required. Ability to use ImageJ software.
Desirable Qualifications: Demonstrated ability to learn new techniques and to work with limited supervision is highly desirable.
Anticipated Pay Range: $21.50/hour - $23/hour
Other Information: There is a 120-day probation period.
