Job Description

Assists with the setup and break-down of laboratory exercises for the undergraduate laboratories within the Department of Biological Sciences. This position is responsible for preparing media, solutions, and reagents used in the teaching laboratories, assisting with equipment maintenance as needed, and assisting graduate teaching assistants during class time and/or faculty instructors as requested.

Required Qualifications

• Working knowledge and experience using common laboratory equipment such as autoclaves, balances, pH meters, microscopes and spectrophotometers.
• Experience and knowledge of biological and/or microbiological laboratory principles, procedures, techniques, and safety regulations.
• Experience with material preparation for laboratory exercises
• Excellent communication skills and the ability to accurately and concisely provide direction to the graduate and undergraduate students who use the teaching laboratory facilities and classrooms.

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science degree in biology, microbiology, biochemistry, or related discipline
• Experience working in teaching laboratories
• Must be able to work independently with limited instruction, and with a team.
