Lead Instructional Designer of Artificial Intelligence

Job Summary

Purdue University Fort Wayne (a campus within the Purdue University System) invites applications for a Lead Instructional Designer of Artificial Intelligence, to serve in the Center for the Enhancement of Learning and Teaching (CELT). This new, full-time, onsite position works at both the Purdue Fort Wayne (PFW) campus level and as a PFW representative at the Purdue System level. They partner with faculty, academic departments, and pedagogical and IT support staff to promote effective teaching strategies and improve student learning outcomes in all course modalities. Primary responsibilities include:

  • Research the pedagogical application of existing and emerging AI tools.
  • Research AI-related industry knowledge and skill needs of graduates (particularly in the Northeast Indiana region).
  • Lead partnerships with and coaching of faculty and academic programs to implement pedagogical changes in response to those identified needs.
  • Lead the development and delivery of AI-focused teaching resources, workshops, certificates, and cohort/grant programs related to (re)designing courses, activities, assessments, assignments, etc. with AI in mind, to improve student learning.
  • Through consultation and workshops, assist faculty, broadly, with course design, course development, learning objectives, classroom management, active learning, assessment methods, educational technologies, and other topics related to university teaching.
  • Serve as a PFW representative on Purdue System AI and other Educational Technology-related teams, pilots, etc.

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree or higher in Instructional Design; Instructional Design Technologies; Instructional System Technologies; Learning, Design, and Technologies; Curriculum and Instruction, or a related field.
  • Experience consulting and leading workshops with faculty about AI, teaching strategies, course design and development, and/or assessment.
  • Knowledge of instructional design theory and practice, learning theories, best teaching practices, and best practices in consulting.
  • Fluency with one or more course management systems, such as Canvas, Blackboard, Brightspace, or others.
  • Ability to create instructional materials using authoring tools and standard multimedia applications.
  • Excellent interpersonal, team, oral, and written communication skills.

The Program

CELT is a well-respected and growing teaching and instructional technologies center, both on the Purdue Fort Wayne campus and in the Purdue System. We support course and activity design needs and pedagogical uses of AI and educational technologies in courses of all modalities. We are a faculty teaching development center, providing development opportunities for faculty across their careers. To offer comprehensive programming, we work closely with the provost, deans, chairs, faculty advisory committees, Information Technology, Purdue System offices, and other support office partners.

Purdue will not sponsor employment authorization for this position. A background check and misconduct screen will be required for employment in this position. Insurance begins on the first day of employment. Generous time off as well as additional Winter Break PTO is given in December. Fee remission for a Purdue degree is provided for employees, spouses, and children. This position is exempt and offers a defined contribution waiting period for the retirement benefit.
