Essential Job Duties: Are you passionate about creating safe, healthy environments and enjoy working both indoors and out? NC State University is seeking a Lead Pest Control Technician to join our dedicated Environmental Services unit. In this important role, you'll be responsible for protecting campus buildings and outdoor areas (excluding dormitories) by managing and removing pests and wildlife that pose risks to our community and infrastructure.
You'll play a key role in maintaining a pest-free campus by addressing a wide range of pests-from insects like termites, roaches, ants, and gnats, to larger wildlife such as raccoons, snakes, deer, and squirrels. Your efforts will directly contribute to the health and comfort of our students, faculty, and staff.

Key responsibilities and duties include, but are not limited to:
- Utilize established pest control methods to control pest infestation throughout the campus
- Conduct inspections of specific areas, document findings, and implement corrective actions to determine appropriate treatment
- Schedule and interact during inspections with safety committees and clients
- Perform technical duties related to environmental issues, coordinating with various departments
- Plan work procedures and execute assigned duties independently
- Adhere to strict state regulations regarding the mixing and application of professional-grade chemicals
- Ensure compliance with Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) regulations and follow label directions for pesticide use
- Maintain required certifications and stay current through training seminars and obtaining Continuing Certification Units (CCU)
- Learn and implement updated pest control practices to enhance effectiveness and minimize environmental impact
- Conduct independent inspections to identify infestation sources and assess property damage
- Recommend treatment and prevention methods to clients
- Apply chemical solutions, powders, or gases as necessary and clean work sites afterward
- Operate trucks equipped with power spraying equipment
- Collect and analyze customer feedback to improve service quality
- Conduct account visits and reviews in collaboration with service managers
- Foster collaboration across various departments to ensure effective pest control measures
Other Work/Responsibilities:
- This position has been designated as mandatory personnel for the University and may be required to report to work during adverse weather conditions even though the University may be operating on an alternate schedule. This position may assist with snow and ice removal under the direction of a supervisor.
- Participate in on-call duties for emergency service requests
Minimum Experience/Education: High School diploma or equivalency and demonstrated possession of the competencies necessary to perform the work.
Required Qualifications:
- Knowledge of pesticides and other pest control options
- The ability to assess the safety concerns of each product and the radius of use
- The ability to communicate with a variety of stakeholders
- The ability to explain their pest control process, identify timelines, and address occupants' concerns
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in pest control in a university or commercial setting
- Knowledge of wildlife response protocol and certification
Required license or certification:
- Valid North Carolina driver's license is required within 60 days of hire and must be maintained
- Ability to keep current on all pest control required certification(s)
