Adjunct Instructor, Writing
George Fox University's Department of Language, Literature, and Communication announces multiple part-time, adjunct instructor positions, to begin in August 2024.
About the job:
Both in-person and online adjuncts are needed to teach Writing 111, the first year composition course. The course concentrates on the writing, arguing, and critical thinking skills necessary to succeed in an academic and professional environment, including research strategies relevant for contemporary writing contexts. Enrollment for in-person sections is capped at 20 students per section, and students must enroll in the course by their third semester at George Fox.

Job responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Teaching Writing 111 (course description above).
- Maintaining a Canvas site for course syllabus and assignments, and for recording grades.
- Assessing and reporting student learning through set rubrics for programmatic assessment.
- Working with other faculty to ensure parity across sections.
- Communicating effectively and courteously with others, including employees, students, and the public, in a spirit of teamwork, respect and customer service.
- By actions, words, and lifestyle, be a Christian role model to students, whether through casual contact or in a formal supervisory role.
- Demonstrating awareness, respect, and appreciation for diversity of culture, background, race, sex, political views, expressions of faith, etc. and works well with a variety of people.
- Other duties as assigned.
We're looking for candidates who have:
- A Master's degree, enrollment in an MA program, and/or demonstrated teaching experience in writing.
- A commitment to working with a diverse population of students.
- A personal commitment to Jesus Christ and express their Christian testimony in a church. In addition, employees agree to live in agreement with the Community Lifestyle Statement and affirm the theological commitments expressed in the Statement of Faith.
Preference will be given to those who have the following attributes:
- Experience teaching first-year college writing.
- Demonstrated experience in working with a diverse population of students.
