Lecturer, Department of Writing and Rhetoric
Stony Brook University’s Department of Writing and Rhetoric (DWR) is hiring full-time lecturers to start in August 2026. Chosen candidates must exhibit a commitment to innovative teaching practices and engage with professional development activities. Possession of an MA, MFA, or PhD in a related field or an MA in TESOL or Applied Linguistics at the time of application; a minimum of three years’ experience teaching first-year writing; and a demonstrated commitment to advancing educational access, opportunity, and inclusive excellence are required. Preferred credentials include experience assessing student learning outcomes; demonstrated knowledge of professional or technical writing instruction; experience teaching English language learners (ELLs) in a postsecondary setting, including but not limited to grammar, phonetics, and/or phonology; and evidence of academic service. The position is for a two-year, renewable contract. The teaching load is 3/3, primarily in first-year writing with opportunities to teach occasional courses in the DWR’s upper-division curriculum, undergraduate ELLs in the Program in Academic English, and graduate-level international TA training. Other duties include mentoring students, academic service, and attending departmental meetings.
