Salary:£46,735 to £57,422 per annum
Hours:Full Time
Contract Type:Permanent

Placed On: 16th March 2026

Start Date: June 2026 or as soon as possible thereafter.

The School of Medicine wishes to recruit an experienced education focussed lecturer to support the expanding teaching of UG medicine.

You will be a scholar with a growing research reputation and commitment to delivering high quality teaching. We are particularly interested in candidates who have experience of delivery and management of new educational content with a background in the medical and health sciences.

The successful candidate will be expected to assume a leadership role as a theme lead, module lead or similar, to be active in the development of teaching via scholarly or educational research activities, and to be capable of teaching medical and / or health sciences to undergraduate and taught postgraduate students from a wide range of backgrounds. They will initially focus on the design and delivery within years 4 and 5 of the new MBChB (ScotCOM; Scottish Community Orientated Medicine).

MBChB (ScotCOM) is an exciting and innovative community orientated five-year programme, with St Andrews, promoting general-ism alongside secondary care exposure, ensuring to place patients at the centre of the students’ learning. Graduation of the first cohort is anticipated in 2028, with a target of 55 students per academic year. Students complete the existing BSc (Hons) programme for the first 2.5 years, with bespoke content thereafter.

Year 4 of the MBChB encompasses placements centred around urgent care (A+E, ICU, acute paediatrics), General Practice, and a community hospital hub. Whereas year 5 is centred around preparation to practice, a Student Selected Component, consolidation / revision opportunities and an elective. Whilst a significant proportion of teaching delivery is in the clinical environment, there is required content development, content sourcing, and academic oversight of modules that will be running for the first time.

The role holders will teach on the BSc and MBChB as well as the graduate entry ScotGEM MBChB programme and MSC programmes run from the School of Medicine as required, and perform core academic functions, for example within assessment, admissions and pastoral support.

Candidates should hold a PhD in a cognate discipline. Excellent teaching skills and an interest in promoting knowledge exchange are essential.

Informal enquiries can be directed to the MBChB Course Director ram29@st-andrews.ac.uk
