Department Information
Within this setting, SEES is actively engaged in undergraduate education, service, and regional, national, and international research. The individual hired to fill this position will contribute to the undergraduate teaching mission of SEES. The school currently offers baccalaureate degrees in Geosciences (with concentrations in Geography and Geology, & Environmental Science) and Sustainability Science, as well as Master of Science and PhD degrees in Environmental Science.
Job Summary
Reporting to the department chair, the primary teaching responsibilities for the Lecturer of Geology include teaching Physical and Historical Geology Lecture and Lab and Environmental Geology Lab in person on the Statesboro Campus. Opportunities to teach additional courses in the candidate's area of specialization may be possible. At Georgia Southern, lecturers normally teach fifteen credit hours per semester, participate in service, hold regular office hours, and actively participate in departmental meetings. Collegiality is essential. This position will begin on August 1, 2026. This position is a non-tenure track appointment. The salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience.
Required Qualifications
- Earned master's degree (or higher) in Geology, or a closely related field with at least 18 graduate semester hours in Geology by August 1, 2026.
- Demonstrated ability to teach introductory geology lectures and labs
- Willingness to engage with institutional student success initiatives.
- Commitment to engaging with best practice initiatives in instruction and pedagogy, mentoring, and curriculum design and development.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience preparing and teaching Physical, Environmental, and Historical Geology lectures and labs
- Experience teaching advanced courses in geology, geophysics or environmental science
- Experience teaching online courses
Proposed Salary
Commensurate with experience.
This is an exempt position paid on a monthly basis.
