Lecturer in Discipline

The Psychology Department at Columbia University invites applications for a faculty position at the rank of Lecturer in Discipline, to start either January 1, 2026 or July 1, 2026. This is a full-time, non-tenure-track, renewable appointment with multi-year renewal contingent on successful reviews.

Lecturers in Discipline are officers in the University who meet a programmatic need for instruction in specialized fields. Responsibilities include teaching lecture courses and seminars at the undergraduate level on topics in human neuroscience. In the Psychology Department, teaching load is typically 2 courses per semester. Lecturers in the Psychology Department also serve as program advisors to undergraduates in the Neuroscience & Behavior major and contribute to the culture and evolution of this undergraduate program.

Candidates are expected to have exemplary teaching experience, documented evidence of pedagogical excellence, and an interest in the science of teaching and learning. Required are: a PhD in Psychology, Neuroscience, Cognitive Science, or a related field by the date of appointment and a commitment to high-quality teaching at the undergraduate level.

We welcome applications from candidates with expertise in any subfield within psychology and neuroscience. We particularly encourage applications from candidates who can teach courses on one or more of the following topics: introductory psychology, research methods, statistics, and cognitive neuroscience. Additionally, there may be opportunities for the development of seminar courses in the candidate's specialized area(s) of expertise.

A Ph.D. is required at the time of appointment.
