The School of Engineering, Computing and Mathematics (SECaM) is seeking a maritime technology professional to teach and research in marine autonomy, maritime operations, control systems, and digital/intelligent systems.

About the Role

You will:

  • Be encouraged throughout teaching, research and recruitment activities to maximise the benefits gained from the university’s wide range of marine related facilities. These include our Maritime Simulation Laboratory, the COAST Laboratory and the Marine Station.
  • Take responsibility for leading and managing these activities, while reporting to members of the school leadership team and working with staff from across the university.
  • Design and deliver innovative teaching based on you research and / or experience in the maritime sector.
  • Develop and lead research impactful to the maritime sector, collaborating with academics and industry, both nationally and internationally.
  • Inspire new students to study maritime subjects at the University of Plymouth through engagement in recruitment activities.

Due to the nature of the role, we are unable to offer working from home.

This role may require an ATAS certificate before research can begin.

What We’re Looking For

You should:

  • Hold a PhD in Maritime Technology or a closely related discipline and have significant industrial experience in the maritime sector.
  • Have demonstratable enthusiasm for developing and delivering experiential and inspirational teaching that is informed by research and /or industrial experience in the maritime sector.
  • Either have a track record of engaging with industry partners to develop and deliver innovative research that has meaningful impact on the maritime sector or be able to demonstrate the aptitude to build this engagement.
  • Have a track record of attracting funding to support research or be able to present a plan on how you will do this.
