Lecturer in Veterinary Clinical Pathology (Maternity Cover) - Grade 8

The Department of Veterinary Anatomy, Physiology and Pathology is seeking to appoint a Lecturer in Clinical Pathology to provide maternity cover for up to 12 months, preferably starting in November 2025. This is a full-time position (35 hours per week) based at the Leahurst Campus.

You will join a highly experienced, supportive, and collaborative pathology team, working in a well-resourced environment. The department is known for its positive culture, where staff are valued and encouraged to develop their careers.

The primary focus of the role is diagnostic clinical pathology, with a strong emphasis on cytology. The diagnostic service mainly supports the Small Animal Teaching Hospital, with additional submissions from the Equine and Farm Animal Hospitals, Chester Zoo, and private veterinary practices.

Alongside diagnostic duties, you will contribute to the supervision and support of residents and visiting veterinarians. Depending on your interests, there are opportunities to be involved in undergraduate teaching and to engage in research or scholarly activity.

You must hold a degree in veterinary science that is registerable with the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons (MRCVS). You should hold RCVS membership by the time you start in the role.

In addition, you should hold, or be eligible to sit, a recognised postgraduate pathology qualification (ACVP, ECVP, or RCPath). Experience in diagnostic pathology and a commitment to high standards of clinical service, education, and professional development are essential.

This is an excellent opportunity to contribute to a thriving academic environment while working alongside a dedicated and friendly team.

Informal enquiries are welcome and should be directed to Dr. Ioannis Oikonomidis at ioikono@liverpool.ac.uk.

The University of Liverpool is committed to enhancing workforce diversity. We actively seek to attract, develop, and retain colleagues with diverse backgrounds and perspectives. We welcome applications from all genders/gender identities, Black, Asian, or Minority Ethnic backgrounds, individuals living with a disability, and members of the LGBTQIA+ community.
