POSITION: Lecturer of Religious Studies

Stetson University seeks a Lecturer of Religious Studies in either Asian or Islamic religious traditions for the Fall 2026 semester (August to December); historical and geographical focus are open. This is a full-time position for one semester only.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Ph.D. by August 2026 is preferred, although exceptionally qualified candidates who are ABD will be considered. The successful candidate will have active engagement in the discipline and demonstrated excellence in teaching undergraduates.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

The teaching load for the semester will be four courses, including both introductory and intermediate/upper-level courses. For more information on our expectations in teaching and scholarship, our tenure policies, and our support for faculty development, please see the Academic Affairs website.

THE DEPARTMENT:

The Department of Religious Studies (https://www.stetson.edu/artsci/religion/) offers a major and minor in Religious Studies and comprises faculty committed to excellence in undergraduate teaching and to significant student/faculty interaction. Focusing exclusively on undergraduate education, the Department defines its mission as helping students explore the role of religion in shaping human cultures through studies of sacred texts, languages, ethics, beliefs, rituals, spiritual methods, and the history of religious traditions. The Department has five full-time faculty.

SALARY:

Salary is competitive.

STARTING DATE:

August 10, 2026.

2) a curriculum vitae including the names of three references who can speak to the candidate's teaching ability/potential;
3) a statement (also of no more than two pages) of the candidate's teaching philosophy. In the statement of teaching philosophy, candidates are encouraged to highlight skills and experiences that demonstrate a commitment to promoting inclusive academic environments and engaging across differences.
