Lecturer or Senior Lecturer in Medical Sciences (Physiology/Biochemistry) Maternity Cover

An opportunity has arisen as part of continued expansion of medical science at Bangor University, whereby the newly formed North Wales Medical School seeks to appoint a position for maternity cover as Lecturer or Senior Lecturer in Medical Sciences (Physiology/Biochemistry).

Duties will include contributing to modules and the teaching and assessment across the School, in particular covering physiology and biochemistry including laboratory practical sessions and research projects on all taught programs across all years. The successful applicant will contribute significantly to the delivery across all of our undergraduate programmes and will be expected to develop innovative approaches to teaching and training in physiology/biochemistry or develop personal research and/or collaborative research with colleagues across the School and University.

The successful applicant will have a first degree or equivalent in a relevant subject area, PhD (or be near completion) or appropriate professional qualification in a relevant discipline eg. Qualified Physician Associate with clinical experience and a member of the Physician Associate Managed Voluntary Register or HCPC registered.

Research opportunities within the developing North Wales Medical School are currently focus around cancer biology and pharmacology, medicines use and optimisation, personalised medicines, clinical trials, pharmaceutical economics, policy and prescribing. Candidates wishing to be considered for a T&R (research) route will need to indicate how they will develop their research portfolio within a new and developing School.

Candidates wishing to be considered for the Senior Lecturer position will need to evidence extensive curriculum management and development experience and/or an extensive research track record.

The post is fixed-term to cover a maternity absence, and the successful candidate will be expected to commence as soon as practical. At the point of application, applicants should indicate whether they are applying via the T&R (research-focused) or T&S (teaching-focused) route.

The ability to communicate through the medium of Welsh is desirable for this role.

This role will be located on campus at Bangor. Through our Dynamic Working framework, there will also be the option to spend some time working remotely (although remaining in the UK) to support work life balance, which will be discussed further with candidates at interview.

Applications will also be considered to carry out this role on a part-time or job share basis.

Applications will only be accepted via the above ‘Apply’ button. However, in cases of access issues due to disability, paper application forms are available by telephoning 01248 383865.

Interested applicants are invited to contact Professor Stephen Doughty, Head of North Wales Medical School for an informal conversation prior to submission of an application, using e-mail s.doughty@bangor.ac.uk.

Closing date for application: 20 August 2025

Committed to Equal Opportunities.
