Lecturer/Senior Lecturer in Sports Multimedia Journalism
The University of Northampton is looking to recruit an innovative industry connected Lecturer/Senior Lecturer to help deliver an industry focused curriculum across several genres in Sports and Multimedia Journalism. You will have experience as an industry practitioner/journalist in the areas of sports, multimedia and broadcast journalism.
The successful applicant will teach across a range of practical and theory modules with an emphasis on student-focused teaching and high impact research, as well as providing supportive personal tuition. If recruited at senior lecturer level, there will be an expectation for the post holder to undertake some leadership duties, as directed.
You will be expected to help market the Multimedia Sports Journalism and Multimedia Journalism degrees based within the University’s Creative Hub on the Waterside Campus which will include occasional Saturday and evening cover for events such as Open Days.
As an academic, you will be expected to contribute to the research and scholarly output of the subject area and work with other researchers within the Faculty and wider University. Research and scholarship are supported through our research centres, mentor scheme, and 25 days (188 hours) of scholarly activity leave.
You will have a background in multimedia journalism and sports journalism and the ability to produce and deliver a high-quality teaching and learning experience across our two Journalism programmes. A related first degree is essential and higher degree is desirable.
Essential skills include the ability to work independently as well as collegiately within a team and you must be able to communicate professionally and effectively with learners and colleagues. The successful applicant will be able to use initiative to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines, and have an adaptable, positive and proactive approach to supporting the general life of the course, school, faculty and wider University.
You will be ICT literate and for Senior Lecturer level will have experience in leading modules and courses in HE and/or FE settings. A track record of partnership working (internal and external), to develop entrepreneurial and employability opportunities in related journalist settings would be advantageous.
Qualifications
Essential:
- Degree qualification or equivalent in relevant subject
- Professional Recognition as HEA Fellowship (D2) or teaching qualification recognised by HESA, or willingness to obtain within an agreed timescale
Desirable:
- Masters degree in relevant subject
- Doctorate in relevant subject, completed or within 12 months of completion (Senior Lecturer)
- Relevant professional qualification

You will join an innovative and collegiate team within the School of Culture and the Creative Industries (CCI), based in the Faculty of Education, Arts, Science and Technology, with an emphasis on student-focused teaching. CCI contains a varied portfolio of traditional academic subject areas such as History and English, alongside creative industry courses in Acting, Music, Hair, Make-up and Prosthetics, Journalism, and Creative Film, Television and Digital Media Production. CCI is a growing School with excellent links to schools and colleges, the creative industry, professional sports clubs and businesses in Northamptonshire and the region.
