James Cook University (JCU) is seeking an experienced and passionate medical educator to join our Cairns Clinical School as a Lecturer or Senior Lecturer (Medicine). This part‑time opportunity (20%) is ideal for a practicing GP or specialist who thrives on teaching, mentoring, and contributing to the growth of future clinicians.
The Opportunity
In this role, you will play a key part in delivering Year 4 medical teaching in Cairns. You’ll engage students through small‑group learning across:
- Clinical Skills teaching
- Male Teaching Associate (MTA) program
- Clinical Investigations (CLIX) – with a particular focus on radiology
- Assessment activities and clinical examinations
- Program development and coordination
You’ll bring your clinical experience to life in the classroom, helping students build confidence, competence, and a deep understanding of patient‑centred care.
What You'll Be Doing
- Lead and support the coordination, teaching, and assessment of Year 4 on‑campus curriculum at the Cairns Clinical School
- Contribute to continuous curriculum development and enhancement
- Participate in scholarship and collaborative research in medical education or regional/remote health
- Engage actively in team meetings and College initiatives
- Uphold JCU values, including our strong commitment to Reconciliation and sustainability
- Travel occasionally within the region as required
About You
Essential:
- Current registration as a General Practitioner in Australia
- Demonstrated clinical experience
- Experience teaching in undergraduate and/or postgraduate medical education
- Understanding of rural and remote medical practice
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build effective professional relationships
- Excellent organisational and administrative capability
Desirable:
- Current clinical practice and/or strong connections with local public or private health services
For appointment at Level C (Senior Lecturer):
- Fellowship with an Australian Specialist College (or equivalent)
- Significant clinical experience in rural and/or remote areas
- Postgraduate qualifications in medicine, medical sciences, or education
