Lecturer
The Department of Neurobiology & Behavior at Stony Brook University invites applications for a lecturer starting Fall semester 2025. The successful candidate will teach physiology and neurobiology to undergraduates in B.S. and B.A. programs in the life sciences: a core offering is a large-enrollment, introductory physiology lecture course that uses scientific teaching and active learning methods in both conventional and "flipped" formats. The positions offers an exceptional opportunity for career development in science education, at an institution that is a national leader in advancing undergraduate student success and economic mobility.
Required qualifications: Master's degree (foreign equivalent or higher) in the life sciences by the time of appointment. At least two semesters of teaching physiology, neurobiology or a closely related biology subject at the undergraduate level.
Preferred qualifications: PhD degree (or foreign equivalent) in neurobiology, physiology, or a closely related biology subject. Research experience in neurobiology, physiology, or a closely related biology subject. At least one semester's experience as primary instructor / instructor of record. Formal training in educational pedagogy and assessment. Experience in curricular design and innovation. Facility with current teaching technologies including digital accessibility and with learning management systems. Experience in effective use of active learning and other non-lecture-based instructional methods. Teaching experience in at least one lab course in neurobiology, physiology, or a related biology field.
Applicants should submit: CV, a 2-3 page statement of teaching philosophy, interest and experience, and the names and contact information of three people who can be asked to provide confidential evaluations with a focus on teaching.
