The Department of Asian and Middle Eastern Studies at Duke University invites applicants for the Instructor in Mandarin Chinese language position. Instructors will teach courses in the Asian and Middle Eastern Studies Department with an annual course obligation of five to six courses. Develop and deliver high-quality Mandarin Chinese language and culture courses at various levels to undergraduate and graduate students. Evaluate and assess student progress through assignments, exams, and projects. Contribute to the development and improvement of Mandarin Chinese language and culture curricula. Engage in scholarly activities related to Mandarin Chinese language and culture. Publish research findings or contribute to academic publications in the field. Provide academic advising and mentorship to students. Participate in department meetings, committees, and other service activities. Stay updated on trends and developments in the field of Mandarin Chinese language and culture. Attend conferences, workshops, and seminars to enhance teaching and research skills.

Requirements:

Requires a Master’s in Chinese Linguistics, Second Language Acquisition, Educational Psychology, Chinese Studies, or a related field. Position requires five years of experience, which must include some experience in each of the following skills:

1. Teaching pedagogies; Learning management platforms: Sakai, Canvas, MS Suite, and Blackboard; Teaching tools: Quizlet, Kahoot, VoiceThread, Padlet, and Perusall; and Chinese language and culture.

Position requires Chinese language skills.
