External Job Description

Responsible for teaching courses undergraduate courses (including courses at all levels taught in French and courses in English as part of one of the department’s transcultural programs such as: Global Studies, Cultural Anthropology, Sociology, or Translation Studies); overseeing a programming budget for the Centre Francophone (which is focused on programs and events for French speakers); inviting guests and organizing events to engage local communities with Francophone topics; modeling high-impact teaching and providing experiential learning opportunities for students; maintaining an active research program and regular publications; mentoring and advising undergraduate students in their research; maintaining and cultivating a relationship with the French Consulate in Chicago and with the St. Louis Francophile association; representing the university at significant Francophone events; participating equitably in Department and university service; collaborating with the Office of Study Abroad and the Geneva and Accra campuses on French-related, international programs; promoting French studies among local secondary-school students and their teachers; and other duties as assigned by the Department.

Minimum Qualifications

The position requires a PhD in French, Cultural and Linguistic Studies, or a related field. The position also requires native or near-native fluency in French and English.
