Description
Note: College of Marin's faculty pools are open to applications on a continuous basis. Although there may not be any current openings, applications will remain on file until the hiring department has a need to add candidates to their pool OR for up to one year from the date of application, whichever occurs first. If your application becomes inactive after one year, you may re-apply to the pool at that time. Screenings and interviews can be conducted at any point in time as the hiring department necessitates. Once a screening has occurred, applicants will be notified of their status.
Reporting to the Dean of Arts and Humanities, part-time faculty librarians could work on both the Kentfield and Indian Valley (Novato) campuses as part of the regular assignment.
The part-time faculty librarian's primary responsibilities include:
- Teach research and information literacy skills at the Reference Desk and remotely (via email, phone, and Zoom) as necessary
- Prepare and teach subject- and/or course-specific information literacy sessions emphasizing the Library's print and online resources as well as broader information literacy concepts
- Maintain familiarity with the COM Library's print and online resources, including in-house resources as well as those available through consortia
- Contribute to development of Library programs, policies, and procedures
- Other projects and duties as assigned

Essential Functions
Course-Integrated Information Literacy Instruction:
- Maintain familiarity with the COM Library's print and online resources, including in-house resources as well as those available through consortia
- Prepare and teach subject- and/or course-specific information literacy sessions emphasizing the Library's print and online resources as well as broader information literacy concepts
- Prepare and teach general information literacy workshops emphasizing the Library's print and online resources as well as broader information literacy concepts
- Collaborate with discipline faculty in developing/refining information literacy components within their content areas
- Assess and utilize appropriate technologies (including email, Canvas, Zoom, LibGuides, etc.) for delivering instruction to on-campus, remote, and online students
Reference Instruction:
- Provide research/reference assistance to students, faculty, and staff
- Teach research and information literacy skills at the Reference Desk and remotely (via email, phone, and Zoom) as necessary
- Serve regularly scheduled reference hours, including days, evenings and weekends as needed
Collection Development:
- Assist in the selection, acquisition, and de-selection of materials in order to maintain and enhance the COM Library Collection as needed
- Actively promote the use of Library resources and services by assisting discipline faculty in identifying, locating, acquiring, and/or utilizing library resources and services to support classroom instruction
- Conduct outreach to discipline faculty in assigned departments/programs as needed
Other Duties:
- Participate in evaluating student performance related to information literacy student learning outcomes (SLOs)
- Contribute to development of Library programs, policies, and procedures
- Participate in professional committees and activities
- Maintain currency and knowledge in the assigned area of responsibility
- Maintain appropriate standards of professional conduct and ethics
- Perform other duties as assigned
Requirements & Desirables
REQUIREMENTS
- A Master's degree in Library Science or Library and Information Science; or
- The equivalent*; and
- Demonstrated sensitivity to and an understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students and the campus community.

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS
- Demonstrated experience teaching information literacy skills;
- At least three years' professional library experience, preferably in a college or university library;
- Demonstrated knowledge of and experience with a variety of instructional methods for teaching college students information literacy skills.

Salary Range: $90,657 - $124,850*
