Position Summary

Reporting to the Supervising Clinician, the Licensed Clinician will provide ongoing clinical services to the students of the University. Additionally, they will manage crisis intervention and care coordination for students, and take primary leadership in intake and crisis assessment, triage services, case management, and referral coordination at the Counseling Center. The Clinician will assess risk related to students in apparent urgent distress/crisis, coordinate initial clinical disposition, and implement necessary follow-up, including coordination within the Counseling Center and with other campus and community mental health providers, case managers, and stakeholders. Lastly, the Clinician will be utilized in supporting the ongoing needs of the Counseling Center.

This role will be responsible for continuing to build upon and maintain the Counseling Center's existing referral network of providers by initiating and maintaining ongoing relationships with community mental health providers, services and hospitals, and will facilitate referral for students requiring ongoing treatment, and coordinate successful continuation of care for students after referral. In addition, the Counselor will be expected to coordinate mental health treatment to other higher levels of care including the facilitation of hospitalizations when clinically indicated.

This role is an integral part of a mental health team providing direct consultation, assessment, counseling services, and emergency mental health care to students, as well as outreach and training to the Holy Family University community. Lastly, the position requires an element of on call duty coverage that occurs at night and on weekends.

Flexible work location arrangement is appropriate for this role; in-person and remote work available. Flexible scheduling of work hours, in partnership with supervisor, will be necessary to best suit the growing campus mental health needs. Role will serve both the Philadelphia Main Campus, as well at the Newtown (Bucks County) campus locations; weekly in-person presence at both locations may be necessary.

Essential Functions:

  • Coordinate triage/intake coverage and case management services.
  • Conduct brief triage screenings, timely evaluations, and management of students who screen positive for suicide risk.
  • Provide risk assessments and crisis intervention management services.
  • Perform initial intake assessments appointments at the Counseling Center and make case dispositions for treatment.
  • Responsible for providing case management to student clients to provide seamless coordination of care.
  • Collaborate with other staff in providing continuity of care and follow up for students with significant and emergent emotional and psychological needs.
  • Consult with parents, families and support persons, treatment providers, faculty, academic Deans, Residence Life staff, off-campus Counseling Services, other campus offices and students, when appropriate and with appropriate authorization, in order to provide quality care to students. Make referrals to off-campus therapists, clinics, or hospitals, when appropriate.
  • Case management and support as needed for students referred to long-term treatment and those with severe and/or chronic conditions.
  • Coordination of psychiatric hospitalization, including aiding in the transition back to campus.
  • Coordination of the student referral processes to include aiding staff in finding appropriate resources and treatment locations, as well as ensuring that clients are appropriately assessed, successfully referred, and pursuing treatment recommendations.
  • Maintenance of thorough and prompt documentation into the record keeping system.
  • Oversight for and coordination of documents and their dissemination related to clinical responsibilities.
  • Build relationships with off campus partners such as mental health treatment providers, and offices that support social well-being.
  • Participate in providing educational, outreach and prevention programs originating from Counseling Services.
  • Provide training to university stakeholders about triage processes, provision of triage services, and hospitalization procedures.
  • Provide direct services to students and maintain a case load on a weekly basis.
  • Coordinate and participate in on-call and after-hours coverage.

Education & Experience Requirements:

Required:

  • Master's degree in Counseling or Psychology or Social Work. Licensed Professional Counselor, or Licensed Clinical Social Worker.
  • Behavioral health providing direct clinical patient services with at least 1 year of experience in a college counseling center or IOP/PHP/inpatient setting.
  • Case management, triage and/or intake assessment experience.
  • Comfort with risk assessment, safety planning, short-term crisis management.
  • A working knowledge of ethical standards and laws that pertain to mental health and college mental health, such as HIPAA, FERPA and ADA.
  • Knowledge of community mental health resources and facilities.
  • Prior experience and comfort working with a diverse population.

Preferred:

  • Knowledge of and familiarity with insurance providers and networks.
  • Prior experience providing outreach and or referral services.
  • Prior work with adolescents and young adults.
  • Experience with substance abuse.
  • Experience with DBT techniques.
  • Experience in a higher education setting.

  • Ability to maintain constant alertness, quick thinking, and continual sound judgment

Work Environment:

Operates in an office environment, that may have frequent interruptions. The area is well-lit, temperature controlled and free from hazards. Noise level is generally quiet to moderate.

Physical Requirements:

Communicates frequently, in person, over the phone, or via a computer. Hearing is needed for extensive telephone and in person communication. Regularly required to sit for long periods of time; use hands to finger, handle or feel; reach with hands and arms. Manual dexterity is needed to operate a computer keyboard. Operates standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.

Certification/Licensure:

  • Licensed Professional Counselor or Licensed Clinical Social Worker
  • Current license to practice in the State of Pennsylvania. License Eligible will be considered depending on relevant experience.

Other important information:

  • Coordinate and participate in on-call and after-hours coverage.
