Job Summary

We are currently seeking skilled and team-oriented applicants for the position of Psychological Counselor. Reporting to the Clinical Supervisor for Counseling and Wellness Services, this position is responsible for providing psychological and developmental services for students of Eastern Washington University, as well as consultation services and referrals for EWU faculty and staff. The salary for this position is $69,947 (minimum) up to $75,000. Where the hired candidate will begin within this range is dependent on education, experience, and skills. Required Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree in Counseling, Clinical Psychology, or Social Work from a regionally accredited institution in higher education.
  • Counseling theory and treatment models, diagnostic criteria, psychotropic medication knowledge, and knowledge related to the cultural implications of service delivery.
  • Advanced clinical counseling skills, case conceptualization and case presentation skills, risk assessment skills, clinical writing skills.
  • We are accepting candidates who are or will be independently licensed (LP, LMHC, LICSW, LMFT) in Washington State by start date, OR Licensed Mental Health Counselor Associates (LMHCA) with full licensure expected within 3 years of the hire date. Other Associates may be considered based on current supervisory staffing levels and candidate’s remaining supervision hour requirements (please specify supervision hours/supervisor in your application). Associate License required by start date.
  • A minimum of one-year supervised practicum/internship experience.
  • Experience providing individual and group counseling and outreach services.
  • Demonstrated ability to apply a responsive and flexible approach that is supportive of the needs including universal access of our students, faculty, staff and the public.

Job Duties

  1. Provide culturally informed, time-limited individual and group counseling for students who are experiencing psychological, social, academic, or other difficulties that interfere with their ability to succeed academically.
  2. Assess psychological and behavioral problems of students using psychodiagnostic instruments, when appropriate and consistent with clinician training/expertise.
  3. Provide crisis intervention services to the university community (including after-hours services for constituents, as necessary, through effective consultation, triage, and referral).
  4. Participate in the training and supervision of graduate students and/or pre-doctoral interns pursuing degrees in counseling/clinical psychology and social work.
  5. Provide consultative services to individuals and groups associated with Eastern Washington University, through scheduled and extemporaneous means, around issues pertaining to the psychological well-being of members of the university community.
  6. Prepare and deliver educational and preventive workshops/programs that address the developmental, interpersonal, and other psychological issues of particular relevance for a university population.
  7. Participate constructively in such organizational matters as departmental staff meetings and periodic retreats.
  8. Participate in Student Affairs activities pertinent to the development and advancement of student and community wellness (e.g., committee work, retreats, etc.).
  9. Establish and maintain effective relationships with colleagues and internal/external constituencies.
  10. Fulfill all necessary requirements to obtain and retain licensure as a mental health/social work provider in the State of Washington (including continuing education requirements).
  11. Subscribe to and practice in accordance with: ACA or ACSWA Ethical Standards for Counselors/Social Workers, Washington state law as pertaining to the practice of counseling/social work, and Agency and university policies and guidelines.
  12. Take an active role in responsibly managing and developing the operation of a program area within Counseling and Wellness Services (see Distinguishing Duties below).
  13. Perform other duties as assigned by the Director or Clinical Supervisor.

Distinguishing Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assumes responsibility for the development and coordination of services and initiatives in an area of student concern/development in consultation with the Director and Clinical Supervisor. Area of coordination may be determined by student need and/or counselor/social worker’s area of expertise.
  • Engage in ongoing consultation and collaboration with center staff, as well as campus and community partners in order to develop services and programming for student concern/development.
  • Complete formal and/or informal assessment of campus needs in the identified area of student concern/development.
  • Facilitate Counseling and Wellness Services outreach programming in connection with identified areas of coordination, assessing program effectiveness where feasible.
  • Provide Counseling and Wellness Services input and leadership on campus committees focused specifically or generally upon the staff member’s area of expertise and area of coordination.
