Life Science Research Professional 1 (LSRP 1)
Dr. Monther Abu-Remaileh's lab in the Department of Chemical Engineering and Division of Chemistry, Engineering & Medicine for Human Health (ChEM-H) at Stanford University (https://www.abu-remaileh.com/) seeks a Life Science Research Professional 1 (LSRP 1) to perform basic functions and activities involved in defined research projects and support lab operation. Dr. Abu-Remaileh's lab investigates novel pathways that enable cellular and organismal adaptation to metabolic stress and environmental changes. Dr. Abu-Remaileh's research group also studies how these pathways go awry in human diseases such as cancer, neurodegeneration, and metabolic syndrome to engineer new therapeutic modalities.
This position is essential for overseeing and managing all laboratory operations, with a strong focus on inventory and procurement. The individual will ensure adequate stock levels of reagents and consumables while managing the full lifecycle of laboratory supplies, including acquisition, tracking, and maintaining a comprehensive chemical inventory.
In addition to inventory oversight, the role includes budget tracking and order processing, a financial management background to enhance operational efficiency will be an advantage. The individual will maintain a clean, organized, and safe laboratory environment to support productivity and compliance.
The position serves as the primary point of contact for laboratory equipment, including scheduling repairs, performing routine calibrations, and coordinating the installation and proper setup of new instruments.
Management of the laboratory mouse colony, including maintaining accurate and up-to-date records, breeding multiple mouse lines, performing PCR-based genotyping, and ensuring appropriate colony size to meet experimental requirements. Detailed animal and experimental records will be maintained using electronic lab notebooks.
Additional duties include preparing and contributing to SOPs, initiate agreements through Stanford system and help with logistics of grant proposals; and proposing improvements to existing protocols.
This position also leads orientation and training for new staff, students, and postdoctoral researchers, ensuring proper understanding of laboratory procedures, safety standards, and equipment operation.
In this role, you will:
- Help with general lab maintenance as needed; maintain lab stock, manage chemical inventory and safety records, and provide general lab support as needed.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for equipment maintenance; schedule repairs, perform routine calibration, and coordinate the installation of new instruments.
- Assist with orientation and training of new staff or students on lab procedures or techniques.
- Plan approach to experiments in support of research projects in lab and/or field based on knowledge of scientific theory.
- Independently conduct experiments; maintain detailed records of experiments and outcomes.
- Review literature on an ongoing basis to remain current with new procedures and apply learnings to related research.
- Contribute to publication of findings as needed. Participate in the preparation of written documents, including procedures, presentations, and proposals.
- Other duties as assigned.
Education & Experience (Required):
- Bachelor's degree in related scientific field.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities (Required):
- General understanding of scientific principles. Demonstrated performance to use knowledge and skills when needed.
- Demonstrated ability to apply theoretical knowledge of science principals to problem solve work.
- Ability to maintain detailed records of experiments and outcomes.
- General computer skills and ability to quickly learn and master computer programs, databases, and scientific applications.
- Ability to work under deadlines with general guidance.
- Excellent organizational skills and demonstrated ability to accurately complete detailed work.
Education & Experience (Desired):
- Minimum of two (2) years of experience in a laboratory setting, with specific exposure to lab maintenance/management duties.
Pay Range:
The expected pay range for this position is $32.58 to $38.48 per hour.
