Life Science Technician I (Monday - Friday, 7:00 am - 4:00 pm)

Stanford University's Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology has a strong tradition of making significant contributions to basic research. The Division is also committed to clinical and outcomes research, has a successful track record of training fellows for academic careers, and is dedicated to providing care for patients with complex gastrointestinal and liver diseases.

Stanford University is currently seeking a Life Science Technician I to perform animal techniques within the germ-free/gnotobiotic isolators and gnotobiotic cages. This role demands specialized training and meticulous attention to detail, including the cleaning, sterilization, and maintenance of isolators.

This is a full-time position, Monday through Friday, from 7 am to 4 pm, with some flexibility in the work hours. It may require some evening and weekend shifts. Applicants should have experience with gnotobiotic animals and maintaining records related to animal husbandry and breeding. The selected candidate will perform highly detailed procedures on animals and gnotobiotic equipment with minimal supervision to ensure compliance with sterility requirements.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Preferred 2 years of experience with gnotobiotic animals and maintaining records related to animal husbandry and breeding.
  • Experience with the following procedures and models in mice: bacterial gavaging, collection of feces, urine, and/or blood, tissue dissection and harvesting samples, tumor implantation, Allergy models, Obesity models, Colitis Models, Cancer Models.
  • Exceptional attention to details.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with research personnel.
  • Possess computer skills and ability to set-up record keeping systems.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE (REQUIRED):

  • One year's employment experience in laboratory work or a combination of equivalent education and relevant work experience/training (e.g., one year of college science).

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (REQUIRED):

  • Work requires the ability to follow detailed instructions and keep accurate records.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS*:

  • Frequently stand, walk, twist, bend, stoop, squat, grasp lightly, use fine manipulation, grasp forcefully, perform desk-based computer tasks, use telephone, write by hand.
  • Ability to stand and move on hard surfaces for up to eight hours.
  • Occasionally lift and handle materials up to 10 pounds
  • Rarely carry/pull and/or push up to 20 pounds
  • Must have correctible vision to perform duties of the job.
  • Position may require repetitive motion.

WORKING CONDITIONS:
Work occurs in a research laboratory environment. Depending on research, may work in the vicinity of animals, chemicals, gasses, or hazardous materials. Expected to follow all safety requirements and procedures including wearing appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) if required.

The expected pay range for this position is $33.33 (Step 1) to $40.19 (Step 10) per hour. Placement in the pay range is subject to the applicable collective bargaining agreement.

Stanford University provides pay ranges representing its good faith estimate of the hourly wage the university reasonably expects to pay for a position upon hire.
