Limited Term Faculty- Biology
Job Summary
The department of Biological and Environmental sciences at Georgia College and State University invites applications for a limited term lecturer position in Biology to begin August 2026. This position will teach courses in Biological sciences at the undergraduate level. There are no expectations in research and/or service. Areas of instructional need may include Biological processes, Biodiversity, and Environmental sciences. The position emphasizes effective teaching, curriculum development, and mentorship of students preparing for careers with their liberal arts education. Additionally, the faculty may teach in the CORE. This is a one-year limited term appointment for the academic year. The position is responsible for instructing academic courses while supporting the goals of the department, college, and university in advancing its educational mission. The faculty member will be expected to contribute meaningfully to the department's educational mission by teaching undergraduate and graduate students across the relevant disciplines.
Responsibilities
Faculty - Teaching/Instructing -
Teaching Responsibilities
- Full-time instructional load teaching (5 courses) in areas of expertise within the academic discipline
- Regular course meetings and instruction
- Mentoring Students
- Other teaching responsibilities
Knowledge and ability to convey current philosophies, practices, and theories related to the academic discipline.
Faculty employees also contribute to the Georgia College core curriculum by teaching topical freshman (GC1Y) or sophomore seminar (GC2Y) courses. All Georgia College faculty share the responsibility of teaching our core curriculum and providing foundation courses for majors and non-majors alike. To carry out our public liberal arts mission, we seek faculty with the desire and ability to engage students as they launch their intellectual journey.

Faculty are expected to conduct research and develop within the profession.
Academic Achievement/Professional Development
- Publications (editing, citations)

- Publication; peer reviewed scholarship

- Other professional service of development activities
Ability to develop and demonstrate knowledge of current philosophies, practices, and theories related to the academic discipline.
Faculty - Service to Institution -
All faculty are expected to help the department in recruiting majors. Faculty members are expected to attend Department meetings and events.
All faculty are expected to support the advancement of the department, college and university mission by providing service to the institution. Service may be at the department, college, university, community and disciplinary level. Duties include service on college-level and university-level committees, advising students regarding career options, and support of department-level outreach activities.

Required Qualifications
Educational Requirements
Minimum Masters of Science Degree in Biology or related field required.
Must meet SACSCOC accreditation requirements stated in C.S. 3.7.1. (www.sacscoc.org)
Preferred Qualifications
Understanding of the principles associated with effective STEM teaching and learning.
Relevant academic or professional experience in teaching in the Biological sciences.
Successful candidates will demonstrate previous experience and excellence in undergraduate teaching.
