The College of Education and Social Services (CESS) at the University of Vermont invites nominations and applications for a full-time, nine-month, tenure-track position in the Department of Education beginning Fall 2027, at the rank of Assistant Professor with research and teaching that emphasize foundational literacy or literacy development in early ages/grades. Applicants should be motivated by the opportunity to contribute to the CESS mission to "create a more humane and just society."
The successful candidate will demonstrate expertise in foundational literacy through publications, teaching, and service. We are particularly interested in those with training in quantitative methods and experience with grant-writing and oversight of externally funded projects.

The Department
The Department of Education is home to educator and leadership preparation programs at the UG, Masters, EdD and PhD levels, with graduate programs ranked # 69 by USNWR. The programs are nationally accredited, award recognized, and known for high-impact instructional practices with a community-engagement focus. Faculty are nationally and internationally recognized in their fields as evidenced by disciplinary awards, Fullbright and Spencer awards, and comparative faculty metrics placing us in the top tiers of publications and interdisciplinary scholarly works.

Required Qualifications:
- Doctoral degree in a relevant discipline
- Record of publication commensurate with rank
- Relevant experience with external grant funding
- Teaching excellence in higher education
- Strong collegial, communication, and collaborative teamwork skills
Preferred Qualifications:
- Foundational literacy expertise relevant for educator preparation programs
- Collaborative skills and experience with state department policies and literacy-related change initiatives related to literacy
- Content area expertise in literacy interventions across universal instruction and tier 2 and 3 interventions
- Experience and commitment that will help elevate UVM's position as a leader in literacy in the state and beyond

Salary Range (9 Mo): Assistant Professor: $79,000-$82,000. Final offers include a start-up package for research, with salary determinations based upon experience and qualifications.
