Job Summary

The Locksmith is a journeyman level position working under the supervision of the O&M Shop Supervisor and is responsible for the repair, replacement or installation of keys, locks, doors and hardware for all university owned or leased property.

Responsibilities

Installing - 30
Install and repair various types of locks and security devices; door hardware and door operators. Disassemble locks; repair and replace worn tumblers, springs, and other parts. Assemble materials and tools.

Records Management - 20
Cut new or duplicate keys and stamps with identification. Issue keys and maintains records of keys issued and returned. Operates computer data base for key and lock control. Assist with maintenance and programming for card access systems.

Repairs - 30
Repair door hardware and operators. Assist as needed with other work orders and repairs assigned to the Construction shop.

Inventory - 10
Maintains work and shop areas, stock supplies and manage waste generated from work tasks.

Other - 10
Perform other duties as required to meet the goals of the Department, Division, and Georgia College & State University.

Required Qualifications

Educational Requirements
High school diploma or equivalent. Certification from a formal Locksmith course

Other Required Qualifications
Ability to operate a computer or iPad in order to receive and send and submit work orders using a computerized maintenance management system (CMMS); Valid driver's license.

Required Experience
3-5 years

Preferred Qualifications

Preferred Experience
Experience installing and maintaining BEST Lock key and access control systems

Proposed Salary

This position is a pay grade 7. The starting salary range is $30,828.00. Starting salary within this range is based on relevant years of experience.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

ABILITIES
- Ability to comprehend two-dimensional plans and visualize them in three-dimensional format.
- Ability to understand, follow and perform tasks within safety protocols.
- Ability to read, understand and follow written instructions. Ability to climb, work from ladders, scaffolding and staging, daily.
- Ability to grasp, lift, and carry heavy objects (50-75lbs) daily.
- Ability to operate motor vehicle, motorized man lifts, heavy equipment and power tools, daily.
- Ability to remain on task without direct supervision for extended periods of time.

KNOWLEDGE
Basic knowledge of the methods, practices, tools, equipment and materials used in a wide variety of building and mechanical trades. Knowledge of the occupational hazards associated with working with power tools and equipment. Knowledge of precautions for handling hazardous waste. Basic understanding of plumbing, electrical and HVAC work and processes.

SKILLS
Demonstrate skill in maintaining tools, equipment and materials of the trade.
