"Locksmith I/II"

About the Role

Swarthmore College is seeking a Locksmith I or II to support the maintenance and security needs of the campus. This position involves assisting in the installation, repair, and maintenance of locks and related door hardware, ensuring the safety and functionality of college facilities.

Responsibilities for Level I:

• Respond to daily work requests related to door operations and key issuance, including after-hours calls.
• Assist with installation, maintenance, and repair of locks and access control components.
• Perform basic key cutting and duplication under supervision.
• Maintain accurate key and lock records.
• Support rekeying of locks and respond to service requests promptly.
• Follow safety protocols and collaborate with maintenance staff.

Responsibilities for Level II:

• Respond to work requests and perform troubleshooting of door and lock problems.
• Cut keys, install building cores, and troubleshoot electronic and conventional locks.
• Perform carpentry repairs to doors and frames as needed.
• Organize residence hall core changeovers and maintain key inventories.
• Generate reports for key tracking and work with external contractors for security upgrades.
• Review and approve door hardware for new construction.

Required Qualifications:

Level I:

• High School Diploma.
• Valid Driver’s license.
• Mechanical aptitude and ability to handle multiple tasks.
• Ability to work independently and communicate effectively.

Level II:

• High School Diploma and minimum of seven years’ experience as a Locksmith.
• Technical training in lock systems and electronic door hardware.
• Ability to troubleshoot and install wiring for electronic devices.

The market range is Level I $25.00 - $31.00 per hour, Level II $29.00 - $36.00 per hour. Swarthmore College is committed to diversity and inclusion.
