Job Summary
The Locksmith is responsible for installing and maintaining all physical locking systems in all the buildings in various campuses throughout the system and maintaining a preventive maintenance program.
Essential Functions
- Replace all types of locking systems with originally installed components, converts the hardware to a standard locking system.
- Install and maintain commonly used door hardware.
- Operate key cutting machinery including computer operated, automatic, manual and punch ones.
- Re-pin removable lock cores for single and master keys operation.
- Implement schedule of locks to be re-keyed that are currently in use at buildings throughout the Colleges.
- Ensure proper care in the use and maintenance of equipment and supplies; promote continuous improvement of workplace safety and environmental practices.
- Troubleshoot locking problems including all door and entrance hardware.
- Clean, maintain and repair shop tools and equipment.
- Lift 50 lbs. and climb a ladder.
- May be required to travel between various HCC locations.
- Perform other duties, tasks and assignments as required.
Qualifications
Education & Experience
- High School Diploma/GED required
- 2 years education or training in HVAC, Mechanical, Control Systems or formal craft/trade preferred
- 18 months experience in building maintenance required, including 6 months in lock repair
Licensing & Certification
- Valid Texas Driver License

Working Conditions
General Office. Must be able to perform all job requirements with or without reasonable accommodations; remain in a stationary position during shift; move items weighing up to 25 pounds; position self to operate job equipment; apply established protocols in a timely manner. Must access, input and retrieve information from technology devices; communicate with others to accomplish job requirements. May be required to work after hours to include weekends and holidays.
